Going into 2025, we were interested to see what Google was going to deliver with its next foldable phone. And while it's not quite as dramatic of an upgrade compared to last year's model, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold still managed to surprise on multiple levels.

The sleek design introduced last year makes its return, still making for one of the thinnest foldable phones available. Google's knocked it out of the park with the color choices too, as they're both simply fantastic.

More important than the design are the changes that you won't immediately see. For one, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the first foldable phone to feature an IP68 rating, something that even Samsung didn't achieve with its Galaxy Z Fold 7. Some of this was made possible thanks to the upgrades to the hinge and the glass found on the inner display.

Not only that, but we should see some pretty impressive performance gains with the Tensor G5. It might not be able to match up with the Snapdragon 8 Elite, but it brings Google a closer to the top than we expected.

The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold finally made its debut at the Made by Google event on August 20, 2025. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold not only packs a brand-new TSMC-made Tensor G5 chipset, but the company has also improved the charging speeds and battery capacity of its latest book-style foldable

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold ships with a 5,015 mAh battery, which is an increase of 365 mAh compared to its predecessor, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. As for charging speed, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold supports up to 39W fast wired charging with a USB-C cable. This is a massive increase over the 21W charging speed we saw with Google's previous-generation foldable phone.

According to Google, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold can charge up to 50% in about 30 minutes when using a 30W USB-C charger. The charging time will drop further if you use a 45W USB-C charger recommended by Google.

This is a massive jump not only because Google has almost doubled charging speeds in one generation, but also because the Pixel 10 Pro Fold offers more than 50% faster charging than its direct competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. The foldable from Samsung still offers only 25W wired charging.

And that's not all, Google has packed major upgrades into the wireless charging technology as well. Similar to all Pixel 10 models, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold supports Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, meaning you no longer need a third-party case or sticker to charge your Pixel using a magnetic charger. Instead, you can stick your Pixel 10 Pro Fold, similar to an iPhone, on a MagSafe charger.

Moreover, thanks to Qi2 support, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold also delivers up to 15W wireless charging, double the 7.5W of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This means wireless charging times should be significantly shorter. Google will also be offering a number of official Qi2 charging accessories as part of its new Pixelsnap lineup.

The Pixel 10 series is finally official, and there aren't any real surprises with regard to the phones' designs compared to what we've already seen from the leaked renders. The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL is once again the largest flagship Pixel of the lot, which will compete directly with Samsung's plus-sized model.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus has a lot going for it, like a powerful processor, a versatile rear camera system, and a large and bright display, making it one of the best Android phones in the market. The Pixel 10 Pro XL is a bit more pricey than the Galaxy, but still in the same ballpark range, which makes for an exciting plus-sized battle.

Google Pixel 10 Pro XL vs. Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus: Pricing and availability

The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL starts at $1,199, which is $100 more than what the 9 Pro XL starts at. Thankfully, the base 128GB storage variant has been scrapped in favor of 256GB. This isn't really a price increase, considering the 256GB variant of the 9 Pro XL already costs $1,199, so Google simply eliminated one variant of the offering. Preorders for the 10 Pro XL run between August 20 and August 28, when it hits store shelves.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus now starts at $999.99 for 256GB of storage, and $1,119.99 for 512GB. There's no 1TB storage variant here like you'll get with the Pixel. The S25 Plus has been in the market for more than six months, which means it's easier to find a good deal for it during sales or even in general. Samsung has Google beat on the pricing front, at least for now.

The Pixel 10 Pro XL looks virtually identical to the Pixel 9 Pro XL. If you compare them side by side, you'll probably notice a few differences, like the larger camera cutouts on the back or the new polished finish for the side rails. What you'll also notice is the weight, which has actually gone up to 232 grams from 221 grams. This makes the 10 Pro XL way heavier than the 190 grams of the S25 Plus.

While the dimensions of the 10 Pro XL are nearly the same as the 9 Pro XL, the larger camera bar might still make it tricky to reuse older cases. The 10 Pro XL comes in Moonstone, Jade, Porcelain, and Obsidian. Moonstone is Google's flagship color for this series. The phone is also IP68 rated for dust and water resistance, and it supports Pixelsnap, which allows it to magnetically use Qi2 chargers without a case. The S25 Plus also supports Qi2 charging, but you need a Qi2 case to make it work.

The Pixel 10 Pro XL keeps the same display as the 9 Pro XL but with higher brightness of up to 3,300 nits. It's a 6.8-inch OLED with a 120Hz refresh rate, 2,992 x 1,344 pixel resolution, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2. PWM-sensitive users should also rejoice as Google has finally addressed this issue by offering a new accessibility setting which claims to "improve the viewing experience for sensitive eyes." We'll be sure to test this one out in our full review.

Samsung has always offered somewhat more eye-friendly displays, and the Galaxy S25 Plus features a 480Hz PWM rate. It's a tad smaller at 6.7 inches, but it's equally pixel dense, has a high brightness of up to 2,600 nits, and good scratch protection. The screen is also great for watching content and playing games.

The one thing we're all eagerly excited to see is the new Tensor G5 chipset's performance in the Pixel 10 Pro XL. It's this new custom chip that has enabled Google to introduce new features like Magic Cue, which is said to proactively offer support like finding a photo that someone from your contacts might request in a message or call. The 10 Pro XL ships with Android 16 out of the box, and will get seven years of OS and security updates.

The Galaxy S25 Plus is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy mobile platform, which is the best available for Android phones. It'll be interesting to see how the Tensor G5 compares, so keep an eye out for our Pixel 10 review. There is a difference in RAM too, with the 10 Pro XL getting 16GB while the S25 Plus gets 12GB.

As expected, the Pixel 10 Pro XL gets new AI features like Camera Coach, which guides you on how to frame your shot, Auto Best Take, and Edit with Ask Photos. The latter feature is great for novice users as it lets you perform edits with simple text prompts. The Galaxy S25 Plus comes with a suite of useful Galaxy AI features, too, so choosing one over the other will depend on which ones you find most useful.

The Pixel 10 Pro XL should win the battle of cameras and battery life when compared to the Galaxy S25 Plus. The Pixel 10 Pro XL has the same camera hardware as its predecessor, which includes a 50MP main, 48MP telephoto, and a 48MP ultrawide camera on the back. However, the new Tensor G5 chip and updated ISP could lead to improvements in image quality for stills and video. We'll know for sure once we've tested it.

The S25 Plus has a solid 50MP primary camera, but the other two (10MP and 12MP) won't be able to capture the same level of detail as the Pixel.

The 10 Pro XL should also last longer than the Samsung, per charge, thanks to a larger 5,200mAh battery capacity. There's faster wired charging than before, and you get Pixelsnap magnetic Qi2 wireless charging as well. As noted before, the Galaxy S25 Plus can do Qi2 charging, but only with a compatible case.

The Pixel 10 Pro XL and Galaxy S25 Plus are both expensive phones at the end of the day, and if you've decided to buy either of them, I don't see price being a major deciding factor. I'd put my money on the Pixel 10 Pro XL simply because it's newer, will get day-one Android updates directly from Google, and its cameras and battery life would be better than Samsung's. Plus, I do like the design way better than the Galaxy, but that's subjective.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus is a good value and will continue to get updates for the next seven years. It's also lighter and slimmer than the Pixel, which could swing a lot of votes in its favor. Keep in mind that it will be yesterday's news in a few months, and it's likely that not all Galaxy AI features will be free to use by the end of 2025.

While the Google Pixel 2 was a major leap over the original, the Google Pixel 4 has arguably done more over the last two years. Google's newest Pixel Watch 4 packs a brighter, domed display with a slimmer bezel, helping the Wear OS smartwatch feel more modern than ever.

If you have a Google Pixel Watch 2, the latest Pixel Watch 4 might feel like a compelling upgrade. There's a lot to like, although the core experience hasn't changed much. For those who are considering a switch, let's break down how the Pixel Watch has changed over the past two generations.

Google Pixel Watch 4 vs. Pixel Watch 2: Design and display

From a design perspective, the Pixel Watch 4 is about as similar to and as different from the Pixel Watch 2 as it could be. Here's what I mean — from the outside, the 41mm configurations are identical, weighing the same 31 grams and measuring the same 12.3mm thick. However, the Pixel Watch 4 comes in two sizes, compared to the Pixel Watch 2's singular size, which some find too small. The displays underneath each smartwatch's Gorilla Glass 5 covering are also completely different.

Part of the idea behind the Google Pixel Watch's sloping, waterdrop design was originally to hide the device's relatively large black bezels. That's evident on the Pixel Watch 2, which has a small and old 1.2-inch AMOLED display panel. It does support 1-60Hz variable refresh rates, but its brightness rating is merely 1,000 nits, hardly enough for reliable outdoor use. It's also a flat display panel under curved glass, which directly contrasts with the Pixel Watch 4's screen.

Google kept the domed Gorilla Glass 5 covering on the Pixel Watch 4, but now added a domed OLED display to match. It's called Actua 360, and it features a slight curve to match the shape of the smartwatch itself. The hardware is improved, too. It keeps the Pixel Watch 2's variable refresh rate support, but triples its peak brightness rating.

The Google Pixel Watch 4 can crank itself up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness when needed, significantly increasing its visibility outdoors.

The other notable change is the charging system. Both the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 4 use charging pins instead of a wireless puck, but they're in different locations on each watch. The Pixel Watch 2 has them on the back with the sensor modules, whereas the Pixel Watch 4 positions them on the side. This fits into a new charging dock that utilizes the display while powering the smartwatch up.

The Google Pixel Watch 4 includes a new Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 processor, but don't get too excited. The real-world experience will likely be similar to using the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 in the Pixel Watch 2. One big addition that comes with the newer model with Qualcomm's latest wearable chip is on-watch satellite connectivity. That means you can get help in an emergency even if you don't have your phone nearby or LTE service on your Pixel Watch 4.

Otherwise, performance is mostly the same, and you get identical 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage on each watch. The Pixel Watch 4 does have a new Cortex M55 co-processor specifically tuned for certain tasks. By shifting tasks like AI queries off the primary chip, the Pixel Watch 4 can use less battery and prioritize efficiency. It's a big move as Gemini becomes the primary wearable assistant for the Pixel Watch.

The Google Pixel Watch 2 lasts only 24 hours with the AOD enabled, while the Pixel Watch 4's 41mm model can finally hit 30 hours. Of course, the Pixel Watch 2 doesn't come in a 45mm size. However, the Pixel Watch 4's 45mm option provides a much longer 40-hour figure for battery life with the AOD active.

Charging is faster, too. The Google Pixel Watch 4 takes 15 minutes to charge halfway from zero for both sizes. By comparison, the Pixel Watch 2 takes twice as long — 30 minutes — to charge the same amount.

Google Pixel Watch 4 vs. Pixel Watch 2: Fitness and health

Both the Google Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Watch 2 have similar fitness and health suites, as they rely on Fitbit software. There is a basic set of features available to all users, and a few extras locked behind a Fitbit Premium subscription. The new Pixel Watch 4 addresses a few of our gripes with older models, such as GPS accuracy and the availability of non-running workout tools.

Google added dual-band GPS to the Pixel Watch 4, which should greatly improve tracking accuracy. Additionally, there are more than 40 workout modes available in the Pixel Watch 4. New features like Fitbit Morning Brief will keep you up-to-date on your fitness and health progress on a daily basis.

At their core, the fitness and health features are powered by Wear OS 6. It's the latest version of Wear OS that includes the Material 3 Expressive user interface and design language overhaul. Both watches are software-supported for three years after their release, with routine feature drops in tow. However, it's worth noting that the Pixel Watch 2 could lose software support in October 2026. That isn't as far away as you might think.

Google Pixel Watch 4 vs. Pixel Watch 2: Which should you buy?

From afar, it'll be hard to tell the Google Pixel Watch 2 and the new Pixel Watch 4 (41mm) apart. They both sport 41mm case sizes, measure 12.3mm thick, and weigh 31 grams without a strap. Under the hood, there are a handful of new changes that'll make the Google Pixel Watch 4 more enjoyable to use daily. The biggest visual difference is the new domed OLED display and slimmer bezels, which should aid usability, too.

Is that enough to make Pixel Watch 2 users upgrade? I'm not so sure. While I find the older model's large bezels and relatively small display to be unsightly, not everyone will. As such, the upgrade from the 41mm Pixel Watch 2 to the 41mm Pixel Watch 4 might not be that enticing. However, if you're hanging onto a Pixel Watch 2 and want to give the 45mm Pixel Watch 4 a try, I think that's a much easier upgrade to justify.

Google's busy week continues, as it announces an all-new update for AI Mode in Search and an expansion of the feature.

Agentic capabilities are rolling out today (Aug 21) for AI Mode in Search, as detailed in a Keyword blog post. Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. are receiving the agentic capabilities via a new Labs experiment that has the company's Project Mariner software working in the background. At the core of this update, Google states AI Mode can now help subscribers in this test "find restaurant reservations."

Google states users can get specific, asking AI Mode to find them a dinner reservation that can accommodate a certain number of people (say, three, for example) at a certain time (like, 6:30 PM, Friday). The post adds that users can also tell AI Mode to consider a specific style of food, as well.

AI Mode is said to scour the web for you, surfacing a wide variety of available restaurants that fit everything you've told it to be aware of. Google adds that the reservations AI Mode returns (availability) will be in real-time, meaning those times should be as accurate as possible.

While this initial test is only available for making dinner plans, Google says it hopes to expand AI Mode's capabilities to appointments and events. It reports that AI Mode is leveraging information, thanks to Google's partnerships with OpenTable, Resy, Tock, Ticketmaster, StubHub, and more.

Joining this AI Mode experiment is the ability for users to receive "tailored" results based on their preferences. These results begin only for food-related (dining) queries. If you've previously searched for food before, Google states AI Mode will leverage those past conversations to help find spots you may enjoy. This data is taken from what AI Mode remembers about you, which Google says can be tinkered with at any time.

AI Mode heads to Canada

Google is also bringing more users into the world of AI Mode in Search. The post states AI Mode is slowly becoming available in over 180 additional countries this week in English. Among those global rollout is AI Mode's availability in Canada. Similar to around the time of AI Mode's U.S. launch, Canadian users will have the ability to lean on the feature for more "complex" topics. These subjects can include how-to guides or help with planning a vacation.

Additionally, Canadian users can even have AI Mode create a table packed full of information about "the differences in taste, ease of use, and equipment needed" when wanting to brew coffee from home. More than that, Canada's AI Mode launch brings a multimodal experience, says Google. Now, users can open AI Mode in Search on their phones, activate their cameras, and ask the feature about what they're looking at.

Alternatively, you could upload a photo and ask AI Mode that way.

Elsewhere, users in the U.S. will begin to find today (Aug 21) and through the end of the week is a new link-sharing feature for AI Mode. Google states users can enter a search discussion with AI Mode and then share a link for others to see its results. Moreover, the people you've shared the link with will be able to essentially "pick up where you left off," gaining the ability to pose their own follow-up questions to the AI.

Users can control their shared links and delete them as necessary.

The company dropped a major AI Mode update in July, basically turning into your personal assistant, capable of placing calls in your stead. The AI can call businesses for you, asking about appointment details, times, pricing, and more. AI Mode was also given access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, which adds better reasoning capabilities for complex topics like math when engaging in a Deep Search.

We're less than a month away from Meta Connect 2025, where we're rumored to see Meta's $800 Hypernova smart glasses with a single display in the right lens. I expect plenty of people will balk at buying smart glasses with "only" one display. But having tried both monocular and binocular smart glasses, I think Meta is making the right decision — and Google would agree with me.

The original Google Glass had a monocular display, and a decade later, when I tried Google's Android XR reference design at I/O 2025 (see the photo above), they had only one display. This isn't a coincidence!

Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth explained why monocular smart glasses are so much easier to create during an August AMA (via UploadVR): "They're affordable, they're lighter, and you don't have disparity correction, so they're structurally quite a bit easier."

Switching to binocular displays "more than doubles the cost" because, on top of a second display and eye-tracking camera, you have to ensure perfect interpupillary distance and prevent any disparity between what the user's two eyes see.

It's why Meta's monocular Hypernova glasses can (allegedly) cost less than a grand and blend in as somewhat "normal" glasses. Would people care as much about them if they cost $2,000?

Meanwhile, its Meta Orion prototype needs thicker frames for the extra power and battery demands of two large displays. And while Orion's $10,000 cost mostly comes down to silicone carbide lenses, that cost would be more than halved with one display.

The concern with a monocular display is "binocular rivalry," Bosworth says, because "one eye is seeing something, the other eye isn't seeing it, and your brain has to reconcile that, and different people experience that very differently."

But again, having tried Google's latest monocular glasses, I'm mostly unconcerned. And I don't think you should knock them until you try them.

Trust me, we don't need two displays yet

Out of everything I heard at Augmented World Expo 2025, every AR expert agreed that there's no one set path for smart glasses, but that any binocular glasses or "smart goggles" like the XREAL One Pro aren't going to blend in as normal glasses for years. The form factor simply can't fit in the battery, holographic tech, cameras, and other vital tech without ballooning in size.

There's a reason why Meta has teamed up with Ray-Ban and Oakley, while Google partnered with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. Smart glasses need to look good and familiar, or not enough people will wear them to make money. The thicker they get, the harder it is for people to see the resemblance.

Most importantly, smart glasses need to function without a display. Assistants like Meta AI and Gemini will be your primary controller and source of information, with the display there to show their data in a more accessible way. So adding a second display, which will drain your battery life more quickly until you can't access the assistant at all, is a poor allocation of resources. Smart glasses can only replace normal glasses if they're worth wearing all day, not just at odd moments.

That said, Google's monocular Android XR glasses genuinely impressed me, proving that a display can be subtly helpful. You get a seamless pop-up showing Gemini answers to questions, calendar entries, recent Messages, live translations, and other data that's easily readable but doesn't take up your entire vision.

It's like being able to glance down at your smartwatch for a notification, only with a more subtle downward glance. And in fact, the Android XR version of Google Maps shifts from a basic directional guidance to a full-on map when you look downward, signaling to the glasses that you want more information.

Maybe some people will be more bothered by a monocular display — especially if they're not right-eye dominant — but it felt totally natural, sitting in my vision without any blurring, but not feeling so distracting that I couldn't focus on what's in front of me.

Binocular AR glasses might make these pop-ups even clearer, but they'll have to reconcile the image in the center of your vision, and while that's great for extended displays for gaming or streaming while you lay in bed, I don't know how much more helpful it'll be outdoors when you're walking around.

That's why I think monocular smart glasses are the best way to introduce this tech to wider audiences. It's simpler to pull off, and you don't need to worry as much about things like interpupillary distance when trying to give people a clear test demo.

So long as Meta, Google, and the rest remember that about 30% of people are left-eye dominant and sell a smaller portion of left-display glasses, I don't think people will have any trouble adapting to monocular smart glasses. Either that, or they'll just keep buying normal smart glasses like Oakley Meta HSTN or Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3s that don't even need a display.

Honor's newest clamshell foldable, the Magic V Flip 2, is putting its best on today (Aug 21), as the company launches its fashion-forward device in China.

Earlier this morning, Honor highlighted the huge launch of its Magic V Flip 2, which aims to be a more "luxurious" device that's ready to hit the catwalk. Honor states it's collaborated once more with Prof. Jimmy Choo, OBE for a limited edition variant of the phone inspired by the "subtle shimmer of crystals." This sparkling V Flip 2 invokes the colors of "crushed stardust" in the sea.

The company states it wants the Magic V Flip 2 to feel more like a "luxury accessory," as consumers pair it with a leather sling or pearl strap. Consumers will notice a 4-inch cover display and a large 6.8-inch internal, foldable display. Camera-wise, consumers will find that the dual camera array on the V Flip 2 is the same size, unlike the original model, which had a larger main camera cutout against a smaller ultrawide cutout.

However, the Magic V Flip 2 takes its photography even more seriously this time around, providing a 200MP main camera with f/1.9 aperture and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle macro lens. This is an upgrade that truly tops the 50MP, 12MP pairing the first iteration had. Users will also have a 50MP selfie camera once again at f/2.0 aperture.

Honor states it's fueled even more of its AI algorithms into the V Flip 2 to make a phone that's proficient in selfies.

According to the press release, the Magic V Flip 2 is "designed as the ultimate selfie device." The device reportedly hauls in a new feature: Ultra-Wide Portrait mode with natural bokeh. Honor is highlighting the capabilities of its cover display's main and ultra-wide lens, which users can use for selfies, as the cover display delivers a unique preview experience.

The AI Honor Image Engine helps to improve user photo quality once taken. AI Super Zoom enables even greater, up-close shots, up to 30x when using the main 200MP sensor. Additionally, other AI tools, such as AI Edit, Passers-by Eraser, Open Eyes, AI Cutout, and AI Upscale, further Honor's commitment to the user's post-production experience.

Away from the camera, Honor states its AI focus delivers one-click smart reply, AI Interpreter, Magic Capsule, and AI Deepfake Detection. Honor's also highlighting a cuter, more fun experience with its foldable's cover display, which involves nine new pets that users can play with.

The Magic V Flip 2 arrives in China

Rounding out the Magic V Flip's end of the week launch is details about its 5,500mAh battery. Honor states this silicon-carbon battery is built to enhance the foldable's endurance throughout the day, so you're not always attached to your charger. As such, the Flip 2 delivers 80W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless capabilities.

The phone is available in a 16/1TB (RAM/storage) configuration for its crystal-inspired limited edition. However, Honor states consumers can also find the device available in purple, white, and grey, naturally. Those three variations feature the following RAM/storage configs: 12/256GB, 12/512GB, and 12/TB.

• Vivo unveiled its first mixed reality headset, the Vision Discovery Edition, in China.

The Android mixed reality headset market is beginning to boom, and while we're still waiting for Samsung's Project Moohan later this year, Vivo has just beaten the competition by launching its first mixed reality headset.

Vivo celebrated its 30th birthday today in Dongguan, China, with a special launch event where the company unveiled its first mixed reality (MR) headset called vivo Vision Discovery Edition. Vivo says it has been working on the product for about four years, and the headset is about the brand's vision of bringing mixed reality from the lab into everyday life.

At first glance, the Vision Discovery Edition looks very similar to the Apple Vision Pro. You have a glass-covered front with an aluminum frame and a fabric headband. What's different is that Vivo's XR headset is quite light compared to the Vision Pro, measuring just 398g, while Apple's comes in at around 600g. Vivo also says it offers four sizes of light seal and eight foam padding options to ensure an optimal fit.

While Samsung's XR headset is expected to be powered by Android XR, Vivo has used its own OriginOS Vision for the Discovery Edition. Vivo says the UI elements "seamlessly blend in the surrounding space," and the headset supports eye-tracking and fingertip gesture recognition.

On the hardware front, the Vivo Vision Discovery Edition comes with dual Micro-OLED 8K displays and is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset. Vivo says the chipset is powerful enough for high-speed rendering in spatial computing.

The headset can generate up to a 120-foot virtual theater screen, allowing users to watch sports and e-sports broadcasts from multiple angles. Thanks to its split-screen feature, it can also display different games simultaneously.

Vivo hasn't announced pricing or availability yet, but the company will begin showcasing the headset to users in China starting next week.

Alongside the launch of the MR headset, Vivo revealed that it has renewed its partnership with ZEISS, aiming to deepen collaboration with the German brand for better night, portrait, telephoto, and video features on Vivo phones.

A good strategy when shopping for Pixel Watch 4 bands is to get one formal and one fun or casual option. That's the most versatile combo that won't bankrupt you. The formal option could be a pricey treat like one of the first-party metal bands, and the casual option could be something cheaper from Spigen. Of course, if money isn't an option, go ham. I would too, if I had the cash.

The Pixel Watch 4 comes with an Active Band, so I don't recommend getting more of the same. Instead, buy something like the Active Sport Band that's more durable and breathable. It can accompany you to the gym and on daily errands around town. If you want a cheaper option for rough use, I adore the Spigen Lite Fit stretchy nylon band. The only drawback with the flexible Spigen Lite Fit band is that it doesn't come in a 45mm option.

For special occasions like fancy dinners, birthday parties, or business settings, I recommend a metal band. I strongly believe every watch owner should have at least one metal strap in their arsenal. For the Pixel Watch 4, the lovely Pixel Watch Metal Slim Band is a superb option for smaller wrists. It isn't available in 45mm, so for the larger Watch 4 variant, you should get the classic Pixel Watch Metal Links Band instead. Although you only have two colors to choose from, the latter comes in 41mm and 45mm sizes. Both metal bands are made of stainless steel, which is incredibly durable, and come with extra links in the box so you can adjust the length. Google charges an arm and a leg for its metal bands, but it's a monopolistic situation, so you don't have any other choice.

What are Content Credentials?

Content Credentials are the latest step to address a growing problem with fake or edited imagery. It's not the first try, and it's not even a popular idea among creators, but companies like Meta have been trying to get a handle on it for a while. What's needed is an industry standard built into the cameras most people use.

That's what Google is trying to do here. Starting with the Pixel 10, every photo will have a sort of trail explaining how it was created. When used with the existing tools like SynthID and metadata added by Google Gemini, you'll be able to see if a photo went through any sort of user-initiated AI for editing.

Why should I care?

Millions of people take photos with their phones every day, and a lot of those get shared. Putting a good camera phone into everyone's pocket and connecting it straight to the internet makes it easy, and we like to see them. Sharing pics is natural and fun.

Not all of those pictures are real, though. You've always been able to edit photos, even "old" photos taken before the digital camera age, and people have always been doing it. Now that AI makes it so easy, it can be problematic.

Sure, most fake pics are just that: photos edited to be unreal and funny, or outrageous, or whatever. The kind of things friends share with each other. But not all of them.

We went through all this during the 2024 U.S. election. Some people decided it would be a good idea to make fake photos showing their favorite candidate in a positive light or their opponent in a negative light. Or both. These pictures were shared with the intention of influencing people and, in turn, the election.

Did it succeed? I have no idea. I'm sure plenty of people believed what they were seeing (this I know because many were heavily shared), especially as AI-generated imagery becomes increasingly convincing, but whether that translated into votes is mostly unknown.

But it could have.

That's just an easy example. Fake photos can be used for fraud, extortion, embarrassment, or any other horrible thing people often do to each other. When you make it so easy to take a photo, share it, but edit it first to make it tell whatever story you want, it's not good. I've been fooled by a fake picture. You've been fooled, too, and there's a good chance someone close to you, like a parent, has also been fooled.

Content Credentials is a major step in the right direction

Content Credentials sounds like a good idea, but creators don't like this. If I take a photo of a sunset and have Adobe touch up the colors to make it pop, it may be identified as edited by AI. That's because it probably was. AI carries a stigma when it comes to photographs, and that attitude will need to change because we deserve to know if what we're seeing is real or fake. And yes, altering the colors of a landscape photo makes it fake.

Content Credentials will help keep fake photos from going viral, but it won't be foolproof. Nothing ever is. People dedicated to working with AI to create or edit images will see what they can do to get around being identified, and some will succeed, at least part of the time.

In the end, though, it makes it a little easier for us to trust what our eyes are seeing, and that's the important part. This may have started with the Pixel 10, but it's also said to be rolling out to other Android and iOS devices soon. It's more than a band-aid, even if it's not a foolproof solution, more of this technology will be developed because the need isn't ever going to go away.

The Pixel 10 series is finally official, and one of the biggest upgrades with the new generation is support for native Qi2 wireless charging.

However, if you've noticed closely, only the Pixel 10 Pro supports up to 25W faster wireless charging (Qi2.2), while the smaller Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro support only up to 15W wireless charging (Qi2). But we might now have an idea why faster charging is reserved for the larger model.

At the Pixel 10 series showcase in India today, we reached out to a Google spokesperson asking why there is a discrepancy in the charging speeds of the Pixel 10 models, even though the hardware underneath appears the same.

The spokesperson said Google took this decision due to several factors. One of the biggest challenges with wireless charging is managing heat. Wireless charging can heat devices significantly, which can in turn harm the battery, wearing it down faster (or in rare cases even catching fire).

Some Pixel 6a models have also been catching fire while charging, which could explain Google taking an extra cautious approach.

Google limits Pixel 10 and 10 Pro wireless charging speeds for heat and durability reasons

Other factors, according to the spokesperson, include thermal performance and cooling efficiency. It's worth noting that the Pixel 10 uses a graphene cooling system, while both Pro models use a vapor chamber.

While Google didn't explicitly say which is better, vapor chamber cooling is usually considered more effective, and the larger chamber in the Pixel 10 Pro XL may be why it can handle faster charging.

The spokesperson also noted that limiting charging speeds on the Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro supports the company's promise of seven years of support. Slower charging helps reduce wear on the battery over time, making it easier to deliver on that long-term commitment.

Even though charging speeds differ, Google emphasized that the overall Qi2 experience is consistent across the lineup. This means you can use magnetic wireless chargers and MagSafe accessories like wallets, mounts, and power banks on all models without using any third-party cases or stickers.

Android Central reached out to Google again for an official statement, but it did not get one in time for publication. We'll update this story if we hear back.

• Reports state the UI is "far too cluttered" and that simple ways of making "rapid edits" no longer exist as issues with the new sliders and crop corners are highlighted.
• Google celebrated 10 years of the Photos app in May, which brought about this new editor UI and QR codes for sharing albums.

Google's new photo editing UI in the Photos app has started appearing for users, and the verdict is anything but positive.

User Smoke-away on the Google Pixel subreddit posted an in-depth personal review of the latest Photos app editor UI changes. Overall, the user claims the new photo editor is "unusable" and even "less functional" when compared to the app's previous design. One of the user's gripes was that the "display image" when editing a photo is much smaller, which doesn't make things better when the UI is already "far too cluttered."

To explain, the user states several UI elements, such as the editor's sliders, feel a little too tedious. The update makes it so users are forced to "tap in and out" of sliders in order to move between each one. If a user has changed an aspect of their photo using a slider, the post states "the button doesn't stay highlighted to let you know it was adjusted."

Quickly toggling sliders isn't occurring as it used to with the editor update; swiping through sliders takes more rotations as they've been enlarged. More importantly, the user states the core of the editor's old UI, which enabled them to do "rapid edits" on one panel with the tap of a button, no longer exists.

The user states the previous Photos editor was more "minimal," which worked better for fixing up their photography, rather than what's rolled in recently. Other users chimed in, agreeing with the OP (original poster), stating the UI has become cluttered/a mess and that "losing visual space" with the changes done to the crop corners is "pointless."

In May, Google Photos celebrated its 10th anniversary as the gallery and editor for users and their memories. While it was momentous for Google, the company wanted to gift its users two updates, and one of those updates was this new editor UI. At the time, Google said its editor UI updates would offer "AI-powered suggestions" while fixing your captures. Additionally, Google said that the changes would further encourage "quick edits."

In contrast to what Google's said, end-users aren't finding these changes so favorable. Some, like the OP, would like to roll back instead of keeping what Google's brought.

Google's May update informed users that they could also tap on a specific part of their photo to receive AI suggestions on how to fix it. The second update brought a patch to sharing in Google Photos. Now, users can retrieve a QR code and let their loved ones scan it to see the album on their phones.

A more recent update from July for the Photos app dropped a fresh look for photo view. Users on iOS are able to view "glanceable" photo information, as well as a refined action menu. The update was listed as "coming soon" for Android.

Just as we thought Google was done for the day after its massive Pixel 10 series launch event, we were wrong. Shortly after today's Made by Google event concluded, Google released the first Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 for developers, showcasing what's planned for the next major update of Android 16.

For those unaware, Google mostly runs in a three-month cycle. You have monthly patches that bring security fixes, and every few months, Google releases what it calls a Quarterly Platform Release, or QPR, which contains major new features for Pixel phones and other Android devices.

While the company still hasn't released the stable Android 16 QPR1 update, Google is already rolling out the Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 build for developers. If you have a compatible Pixel device running a previous Android 16 beta, you can download the OTA now by going to Settings > System > Software updates, or if you're not enrolled, you can join the beta program at google.com/android/beta.

Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 brings expanded dark mode, auto-themed app icons

As for changes in Android 16 QPR2 Beta 2, Google says the new build focuses on improvements like enhanced user experiences, new APIs for media and productivity apps, and platform features to help developers debug and test their apps.

For user-facing changes, QPR2 Beta 1 brings an "expanded option under dark theme" which forces dark theme even on apps that show light mode. The build also includes Auto-themed app icons that automatically generate a themed icon for an app if the developer doesn't provide one. The system applies a color filtering algorithm to make the icon appear in a style that fits the theme.

The first Android 16 QPR2 beta build comes with build number "BP41.250725.006" and the latest August security patch. The beta program is set to run from August 2025 until the final public release in Q4, with multiple beta builds in between.

It's worth noting that if you want to install the stable Android 16 QPR1 update on your Pixel device, you'll need to opt out of the beta program first and then update to the stable version when it releases next month.

The Android 16 QPR1 is set to bring the Material 3 Expressive design to Pixel phones, as well as Live Updates notifications and Desktop Mode.

Garmin has announced its August 2025 update, which takes the Forerunner 970's cutting-edge running tools and spreads the wealth to other premium flagship watches — though only the newest models.

The Forerunner 970 added several quality-of-life improvements for runners, most notably running tolerance. This tool judges the biomechanical load from each run and tells you how many "impact load miles" your body can currently handle, helping to prevent injuries.

Running tolerance is surprisingly accurate and provides additional context to Training Readiness's focus on cardiovascular recovery. And it helps you judge whether specific workouts (like hilly runs or track workouts) put extra strain on your body. I wish all Garmin Forerunner watches had it, but Garmin is still keeping it to its most expensive models.

While running tolerance is my favorite Forerunner 970 tool, it's just one of many features the Garmin Fenix 8, Venu X1, Enduro 3, and Tactix/ Quatix 8 will receive in this update:

• Auto Lap by Course Point triggers your mile or kilometer splits at GPS-based course markers instead of by actual distance run, in case they don't align.
• Add a race to your calendar, and Garmin will project your ideal final race time based on how long you have left to train.
• If you run to a track, Garmin auto-detects it and locks your route to that track, then goes back to free tracking when you leave it.
• Garmin Triathlon Coach gives you a variety of running, cycling and swimming workouts, personalized to your performance and fitness level.
• If you have a Garmin HRM 600 chest strap, Garmin will calculate your running economy (ml/kg/km) and speed step loss (how much momentum you lose per stride).

On top of all this, Garmin is introducing daily suggested track workouts, including on the Forerunner 570 and 970. It's a spin-off of your daily suggested runs, except that it cuts the easier stuff and ports your tempo, threshold, VO2 Max, anaerobic, and sprint workouts so that they're all visible in the Track Run activity.

And beyond running, some recent Garmin smarts like Evening Report, the smart wake alarm, rucking activity with pack weight, and a calculator app are coming to most models. You can see the feature list — and which watches will receive them — below:

And if all that somehow isn't enough, if you go to the Garmin Forums, you can find a complete list of updates and fixes, more than what's shown above. For example, the Fenix 8 17.28 update includes an emoji keyboard, a way to access apps by swiping left from the watch face, new notification types, and a couple dozen other tweaks.

The Forerunner 970 12.70 update includes some fun new tricks, like the ability to hear LiveTrack spectator messages over the watch's speaker during a race, a watch face data field for running tolerance mid-activity, and custom focus modes. It also fixes personal records so they are judged by elapsed time instead of logged time; that way, you can't cheat into a world-record time by pausing and restarting.

As for more affordable 2025 Garmin watches, the Vivoactive 6 is getting the Evening Report, Rucking activities, automatic rest timers for Strength activities, and a Tips app, while the Instinct 3 update mostly focuses on bug fixes.

Unfortunately, we don't see any major updates for older Garmin watches. Owners of last-gen flagships like the Fenix 7 or Epix Pro Gen 2, in particular, will feel aggrieved that Garmin is locking them out from new features.

If you miss out on the benefits of magnetism because of a phone case, you might as well stick with the last-gen Pixel 9 Pro XL instead.

You know what's amazing about the best Google Pixel 10 Pro XL cases? A large portion of them cost less than $30, with some prices as low as under $20! There's no need to break the bank to get an excellent protective case, even with MagSafe or Qi2 integration in tow. Even the certified Made by Google case from Mous costs $45, which is cheaper than Google's own case. Although it's not quite the dramatic upgrade that we were hoping for, the Google Pixel 10 is still an impressive flagship phone with new hardware and a few surprising specs under the hood. All three phones in the flagship line — which includes the standard Pixel 10, the Pixel 10 Pro, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL — are powered by the new Google Tensor G5 chipset, plus you get an upgraded triple camera system, a bunch of new AI-powered software features, and seven years of OS and security upgrades guaranteed. The Pixel 10 is also the first major Android phone to sport Qi2 MagSafe support.

There were a few choices that some Android fans may not appreciate, such as removing the physical SIM card tray, but these are pretty minor issues when you look at the overall package here. • Google surprised viewers with a Gemini for Home teaser during its main event in NYC for the Pixel 10.
• The event seemingly teased a new Google smart home speaker in the works, which looks like a squished sphere with a blue and purple light beneath it when Gemini speaks.
• In a post, Gemini for Home is said to kick the old Assistant to the curb for good, as it brings "powerful" capabilities for more natural conversations, assistance, and playlist help.
• Google states it will bring Gemini for Home to "existing" speakers and displays in October, in early access.

Google's main event, which showcased the Pixel 10 series, also came with a new smart home surprise, and Gemini is at the helm.

Very briefly, during Lando Norris' cameo during the Made by Google event, viewers got to witness what looks like a new, unannounced smart home speaker (via 9to5Google). What Google briefly teased was a smaller device, but it looks almost like a squished sphere with a bright Gemini ring light beneath it, which illuminates blue and purple when the AI is speaking.

The device looks like it could be an upcoming iteration of Google's Nest Mini, rather than its larger Nest Audio device. Unfortunately, Google's event didn't elaborate on what this could be, considering it was Gemini's capabilities that took center stage for that particular segment.

While it's unclear when we could see this new product, there's something else to expect.

Caught you by surprise

A follow-up post by the company explained those AI features we saw: Gemini for Home, a "more powerful Google Assistant" (poor Assistant) for everyday tasks in your house. Google says this new AI's hallmarks include the ability to understand "the context" of what you're asking, while also doing away with "rigid commands."

With Gemini expected in Google Home, the post states can handle anything you ask. Google states Gemini can help users with removing unsightly pests in the yard to planning a vacation overseas. Additionally, users can "coordinate" their lives with Gemini for Home.

The post teases the AI's ability to create new calendar events, timers, and the potential for users to ask Gemini to add all the items for a specific recipe to their grocery list. Gemini's understanding and reasoning capabilities fuel its ability to act on more complex commands. For example, Google says users can tell Gemini for Home to dim the lights and set a new temperature, all in one sentence.

For music, Gemini can not only track down oldies but goldies, but it can also help you figure out the song you're looking for when you say, "play that song from this year's summer blockbuster about race cars."

Google's blog post adds that Gemini Live is making its way into the home via its smart devices. The company highlights the user's ability to initiate conversations with "Hey Google," but after that, users can freely speak with the AI for follow-up questions and more insight. Gemini Live can reportedly help users with complex topics and problems they may find difficult, like troubleshooting devices/appliances, cooking assistance, and researching nutrition plans.

Moreover, Google states Gemini Live at home can also help you brainstorm. This point reminds us of its recent storybook update for the Gemini app, as users can have the AI assist with bedtime stories and more.

Gemini for Home is expected to roll out in early access in October for Google's existing speakers and displays. This early access will include "free and paid versions." Google teases more details, but that's likely to surface closer to its early access start date.

Earlier this afternoon was the main event, as the Made by Google event in NYC highlighted every major product launch. The company revealed its new Pixel 10 series, which boasts a powerful Tensor G5 chip that brings more new goodies under the hood than outside. The phones retain the same design as last year in 2024; however, Magic Cue is your newest assistant, capable of surfacing information for you when you need it.

Magic Cue removes the necessity to hop between multiple apps, searching for information—if you'll allow it.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold was also on deck, as Google touts it as a foldable that can last you a decade with major durability enhancements. Even the Pixel Watch 4 walked the runway, as it seeks to become your favorite AI-buddy.

While the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge isn't a direct rival to the Pixel 10 Pro XL, since they target different audiences, both are priced fairly close and cost well above $1,000. They offer different strengths for buyers, so does it make sense to go for the slim form factor of the S25 Edge, or does the Pixel 10 Pro XL have the edge? Let's see how they compare.

Google Pixel 10 Pro XL vs. Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Pricing and availability

Google officially unveiled the Pixel 10 Pro XL at the Made by Google event on August 20, 2025. The Pixel 10 Pro XL starts at $1,199, with 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM on the base model, plus 512GB and 1TB options at higher prices. The phone comes in four colorways: Moonstone (grayish-blue), Jade (green), Porcelain (white), and Obsidian (black).

Samsung introduced the Galaxy S25 Edge on May 13, 2025, nearly five months after the other S25 series phones debuted. It starts at $1,099 for the base model with 256GB of storage and 12GB of RAM, while the 512GB variant costs $1,220. The Galaxy S25 Edge is available in three colors: Titanium Jet Black, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Icy Blue.

Google Pixel 10 Pro XL vs. Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Design and display

The Pixel 10 Pro XL keeps its design largely unchanged from the Pixel 9 Pro XL. You get a flat-edge design with rounded corners and a protruding camera visor housing the sensors on the back with the "G" logo in the middle. The Pixel 10 Pro XL is both heavier and bulkier than the Galaxy S25 Edge, but in return, you get features like a larger battery, faster charging speeds, and native Qi2 MagSafe-like charging support with magnets built into the phone.

The Galaxy S25 Edge is unlike any recent Samsung flagship. From the start, it's been focused on offering a slim phone, and the numbers prove it: the S25 Edge is just 5.8mm thick and extremely light at 163 grams. The Google Pixel 10 XL is 8.6mm thick and 232 grams heavier, for comparison.

Design-wise, it differs from other Galaxy S25 models, which have separate camera sensors protruding individually, while the S25 Edge has a vertical camera module. There are no magnets on the Galaxy S25 Edge, so you'll need third-party cases for Qi2 magnetic charging functionality.

Like most Android flagships, both phones offer high-resolution displays. The Pixel 10 Pro XL ships with a large 6.8-inch Super Actua OLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate and a high 1344 x 2992 resolution. The display reaches up to 3,300 nits peak brightness, and Google has used Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for front protection.

The Galaxy S25 Edge has a slightly smaller 6.7-inch LTPO Super AMOLED 2X panel, also with a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 3,120 x 1,440 pixels. Samsung uses Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 for display protection, but peak brightness tops out at 2,600 nits. Both phones feature a centered top hole-punch camera with slim bezels around the display.

The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL may not look very different from the outside, but Google has added serious upgrades inside. As expected, it comes with Google’s new Tensor G5 chipset. What's different this time is that Google turned to TSMC to produce the chip on its 3nm process, whereas Samsung Foundry made previous Tensor chips. The result should be improved sustained performance and better efficiency compared to earlier generations, which often struggled with overheating and lag.

Google says the Tensor G5 is "built for the Gemini era" and calls it the company's most "significant upgrade," with deeper customization from architecture to manufacturing. The Tensor G5's TPU is said to be 60% faster for on-device AI tasks, while Google claims the CPU is 34% improved over last year's Tensor G4 in the Pixel 9.

The Galaxy S25 Edge, on the other hand, uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which is widely regarded as the best available in smartphones. It has consistently proven itself in performance and efficiency. We're not sure yet if the Tensor G5 has improved enough to surpass the Snapdragon 8 Elite, but it should come close. More testing of the Pixel 10 Pro XL will make that clear.

In terms of internal hardware, the Pixel 10 Pro XL ships with 16GB of RAM across all models, while the Galaxy S25 Edge comes with 12GB RAM on both the 256GB and 512GB variants.

There's one key area, though, where Google clearly takes the lead over the Galaxy S25 Edge, and that is proper support for Qi2.2 wireless charging. As rumored, the Pixel 10 Pro XL is the first flagship Android smartphone in the US to ship with Qi2 magnets built in.

This means you won't need third-party cases or accessories to make it compatible with MagSafe, as it supports them out of the box. In fact, of all the Pixel 10 series phones, only the Pro XL supports Qi2.2 standard, enabling faster 25W wireless charging, while the rest top out at 15W.

Beyond charging, this also opens the door to MagSafe accessories like magnetic power banks, wallets, docks, car chargers, and more. Google has even unveiled its own lineup of magnetic accessories for the Pixel 10 series under the "PixelSnap" brand.

On the software side, both phones will support up to seven years of OS updates, but the Pixel 10 Pro XL ships with Android 16 out of the box, giving it one more major update than the S25 Edge, which runs on Android 15. Samsung has been testing One UI 8 based on Android 16 for the Galaxy S25 series, which should arrive soon.

Finally, battery life is another key area where the Pixel 10 Pro XL should easily beat the Galaxy S25 Edge. We're looking at a 5,200mAh battery on the Pixel 10 Pro XL versus a 3,900mAh battery on the S25 Edge powering similar 6.8- vs 6.7-inch displays. The Snapdragon 8 Elite is impressively efficient, but given the massive battery difference and the fact that Tensor G5 is built on a more efficient process, endurance should be better on the Pixel 10 Pro XL.

Charging speeds also favor the Pixel. It supports 45W fast charging compared to just 25W on the S25 Edge. While the smaller S25 Edge battery should still charge quickly, the 10 Pro XL delivers a better balance of large capacity and faster charging.

Google Pixel 10 Pro XL vs. Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Cameras

Regarding cameras, this again looks like a win for the Pixel 10 Pro XL. It comes with a 50MP primary camera with PDAF and OIS, coupled with a 48MP ultra-wide sensor and a 48MP 5x periscope telephoto lens. Thanks to Google AI, the Pixel 10 Pro XL can zoom up to 100x using Pro Res Zoom.

The Galaxy S25 Edge, on the other hand, ships with a 200MP primary camera and a 12MP ultrawide sensor. And despite the fact that this is the same 200MP camera found in the top-tier Galaxy S25 Ultra, the slim flagship lacks a dedicated telephoto lens, meaning you can only zoom without quality loss up to 2x. There is digital zoom up to 10x, but that's about it.

So if you're going to a concert or want to capture videos of your kid performing on stage from afar, the Pixel 10 Pro XL is probably the phone you want.

Google Pixel 10 Pro XL vs. Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Which should you buy?

The Pixel 10 Pro XL and Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge are clearly made for two very different kinds of users. The Galaxy S25 Edge is designed entirely around users looking for a slim, light phone that can be used all day without fatigue and without compromising performance. The battery life may mean charging more often than the Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the lack of a telephoto sensor might be a drawback, but the phone is for those who value slimness above all else.

The Pixel 10 Pro XL, on the other hand, finally feels like a complete flagship from Google competing on all fronts. It's the first Android smartphone to ship with Qi2.2 out of the box, has a more capable and efficient Tensor G5 chipset, and offers a bigger battery plus faster charging than the S25 Edge.

It runs on the latest version of Android and brings plenty of new AI features, including Magic Cue, Camera Coach to guide you while taking photos, and Auto Best Take to ensure the best shots. Even though it costs $100 more than the S25 Edge at $1,199, it has its own perks and advantages.

All told, both phones target different users, but for most people, the Pixel 10 Pro XL feels like the more complete phone.

How fast is the Google Pixel 10 charging speed?

Everything to know about the Google Pixel 10's battery and charging specs

Google officially revealed the Pixel 10 series at a Made by Google event on Aug. 20, confirming the devices' battery and charging specs. Every single Pixel 10 model is getting slightly faster charging speeds, with the premium Pixel 10 Pro XL receiving the biggest boost.

The base-model Pixel 10 will charge at 29W with a cable. That's up slightly from the 27W rate supported by the Google Pixel 9. The faster charging coincides with more battery capacity. The new model ships with a 4,970mAh battery, which is an increase of 270mAh compared to its predecessor.

These same charging speeds are supported by the Google Pixel 10 Pro. The larger and most expensive handset, the Pixel 10 Pro XL, offers the fastest charging speeds. The Google Pixel 10 Pro XL charges at up to 39W with a cable. In comparison, the Pixel 9 Pro XL can only hit 37W wired speeds.

As such, all three models are gaining faster charging speeds, increased by 2W across the board. It's not a major jump, and Pixel phones will still charge slower than other Android phones, like the OnePlus 13. However, it is still a welcome change for Pixel 10 buyers who want even shorter charge times.

This year, wireless charging speeds aren't standard across the entire Pixel 10 lineup. The Google Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro have Qi2 support for 15W wireless charging speeds. However, the Pixel 10 Pro XL supports the Qi2.2 spec, enabling support for faster 25W wireless charging speeds.

Another thing to note is that Google embedded Qi2 magnets within the Pixel 10 models themselves, rather than passing the buck onto case and accessory makers. Google fully supports Qi2 and its Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) on the Pixel 10 series, adding magnetic connection with MagSafe, Qi2, and the all-new Pixelsnap accessories.

The wait is finally over — both the Google Pixel Watch 4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 are official. Samsung announced its latest smartwatch lineup in July, and Google followed that up with a Made by Google event on Aug. 20. As a result, we have the two best Wear OS smartwatches for 2025 available for purchase. Usually, which one you pick comes down to which Android smartphone you have, but it's more complicated than that.

There are other factors to consider, such as which watch you prefer in terms of design or how much battery life you need. The Google Pixel Watch 4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 each have their own differentiating features, like Satellite SOS onboard for the former and AI-assisted health tools on the latter. Google Pixel Watch 4 vs. Samsung Galaxy Watch 8: Design and display

Google and Samsung both lean further into their own emerging smartwatch design languages in their 2025 releases. The Google Pixel Watch has sported a custom "waterdrop" design since its inception, and that continues with the Pixel Watch 4. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 finds a new identity this year, as it features a squircle aluminum chassis with an overlaid circular display. Both smartwatches stand out on the wrist and are readily identifiable.

Although the Galaxy Watch 8's shape makes it look bigger than the Pixel Watch 4, that actually isn't the case. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 is flatter, so looks can be deceiving. In reality, the smartwatch is offered in 40mm and 44mm sizes, whereas the Pixel Watch 4 is sold in larger 41mm and 45mm versions. Both smartwatches can be configured with optional LTE connectivity for an additional fee.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 is significantly thinner than the Pixel Watch 4, in part due to Samsung's new squircle "cushion" design, which spreads out the components on a larger surface area on your wrist. The former measures 8.6mm thick, while the latter measures 12.3mm thick. In my own testing of the Galaxy Watch 8, I found the thinner form factor to be more comfortable during workout and sleep tracking sessions.

Otherwise, the Pixel Watch 4, well, looks like a Pixel Watch. The charging contacts are still pins rather than WPC-based wireless on the Galaxy Watch 8. However, they're now found on the side of the Pixel Watch 4 instead of on the back. It's the third charging system in four generations, which isn't ideal. With that in mind, there are some cool features that come out of it, like a dock-style connector with nightstand features.

The Google Pixel Watch always sported a curved glass panel on the front, but the Pixel Watch 4 takes that one step further. Now, the OLED display itself is domed, making for a more immersive experience. Paired with slimmer bezels, the Pixel Watch 4 screen feels larger and has a bigger active area than its predecessor.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 8 ships with either a 1.34-inch, 438x438 screen or a 1.47-inch, 480x480 screen. Both options are Super AMOLED displays with 3,000 nits of peak brightness, perfect for outdoor viewing. Samsung uses a "digital bezel" for navigation, meaning you slide your finger along the exterior of the circular display instead of swiping.

On the inside, both Samsung and Google are using mostly the same collection of health and fitness sensors for 2025 as last year. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 has the company's new BioActive sensor assortment introduced with the Galaxy Watch 7. The Google Pixel Watch 4 has a few upgrades, like support for dual-band GPS, but the core Fitbit-based health sensors are unchanged.

While Samsung stuck with its Exynos W1000 wearable platform for another year, Google upgraded to the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2. This likely isn't as much of an upgrade as you might expect, but the more curious change is the upgrade to a new co-processor. It's the Cortex M55, and it's designed to handle specific tasks while prioritizing efficiency.

This tweak is just one way Google might have improved battery life on the Pixel Watch 4 without significantly increasing hardware capacity.

Battery life is improved across the board, with the 41mm Pixel Watch 4 now lasting 30 hours with AOD on and the 45mm variant extending that figure to 40 hours. That's great, and it pulls the Pixel Watch 4 more in line with the Galaxy Watch 8. However, the bigger upgrade is to charging speed. Both the 41mm and 45mm versions of the Pixel Watch 4 can charge up to 50% in just 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Watch 8 can last about as long as the Pixel Watch 4, but can't charge nearly as fast.

Samsung and Google each have their own fitness and health suites. Samsung Health powers the Galaxy Watch 8, and for now, it's completely free. Some features might require a Samsung phone, though. Google mostly uses the Fitbit platform for Pixel Watch 4 health features, and some of those tools are locked behind a Fitbit Premium subscription.

This year, Samsung added key features to the Galaxy Watch 8, such as Running Coach. This tool tests your running ability and creates a personalized training plan to help you hone your craft. Other health tricks, like Antioxidant Index, help you get a thorough picture of your body. That one tries to figure out whether you're eating enough vegetables based on the color of your finger.

By comparison, the Google Pixel Watch 4 includes more than 40 workout modes, and it also introduces new features that directly competes with the Galaxy Watch 8. Google added Fitbit Morning Brief, a daily health summary that sounds a lot like Now Brief.

Google Pixel Watch 4 vs. Samsung Galaxy Watch 8: Which should you buy?

There's a lot to consider when choosing between the Google Pixel Watch 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8. It starts with design, since you won't want to wear something daily on your wrist if you don't find it attractive. I still think the Galaxy Watch 8 clears in this category, though the Pixel Watch 4's domed OLED display certainly helps. I'd recommend the Pixel Watch if you want a minimalist device that barely looks like a smartwatch, and the Galaxy Watch if you want to lean into the "smart" look.

In terms of software, both devices are running Wear OS 6, so there isn't much separation there. With that being said, there are some exclusives and integrations you'll only get with a matching phone. If there's a particular health feature you're looking for — like Fitbit Morning Brief or Samsung's Running Coach — be sure to buy the right watch.

At the end of the day, you should probably just buy the one that matches your Android phone best, but you can't go wrong with either choice.

Pixel 10 series

At first glance, all three devices on the Pixel 10 series retain their familiar design: rounded corners, flat sides, and a display with a large rear camera bar. Under the hood, the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL get the new and powerful Google Tensor G5 processor and come equipped with the Titan M2 security coprocessor.

Google is finally bringing Qi2 charging built into these devices. Each model boasts a battery life of over 30 hours and up to 100 hours with Extreme Battery Saver enabled. They all support Pixelsnap wireless charging, which is sold separately. On the AI front, Gemini Nano will be pumped on these devices, which is said to make life easier for the user. Features like "Add Me", "Camera Coach", "Night Sight", "Astrophotography," and other photo editing features like "Edit with Ask Photos," "Pixel Studio," "Auto frame," "Reimagine," and more are said to show up on these devices.

The trio also gets end-to-end security designed by Google, including multi-layer hardware security. All three devices launch with Android 16 out of the box and are set to receive seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates.

Pixel 10:

The base model of the Pixel series gets a significant boost, at least in the camera front. Google finally added a third lens to the device's rear camera array, on par with the rest of the lineup.

The Pixel 10 rocks a 48MP main sensor, a 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 10.8MP telephoto lens. Its front camera gets 10.5MP for all your selfie needs. The base model Pixel 10 gets the same 6.3-inch display, which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and a polished rear panel with a satin finish, also made of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The frame of the device is made from spacecraft-grade aluminum.

As for the battery, the phone sees a larger 4,970 mAh battery that reaches up to 55% of charge within 30 minutes of being plugged into the charger.

The phone is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, and has a fingerprint-resistant coating that keeps the phone vary of any smudges. But we'd have to test that out to see if it's the case. Pixel 10 gets a new metallic-looking Indigo color, as well as Frost, Lemongrass, and Obsidian, and gets a price tag starting at $799.

Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL:

The Pixel 10 Pro shows up with the same size 6.3-inch display, while the larger Pixel 10 Pro XL gets a 6.8-inch display. Both phones get a refresh rate of 120Hz and 3300 nits of peak brightness. They also both support a new flicker-sensitive accessibility feature that might be helpful for users with more sensitive eyes. Powering the Pixel 10 Pro is a slightly larger 4,707 mAh battery, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL also sees a huge 5,200mAh battery.

The rear camera pill on both phones consists of the same 50 MP wide, 48 MP ultrawide, and another 48 MP 5x telephoto lens, complete with a 42MP front camera for your selfies and video calls. The cameras support 8K video recording at 24/30 FPS (powered by Video Boost), 4K video recording at 24/30/60 FPS, and 1,080p video recording at 24/30/60 FPS, and have a "Pro Res Zoom" up to 100x.

Not much has changed when it comes to the actual specs of the devices, other than the battery size, the Tensor G5 chip, and the added AI features. Visually, it's hard to tell the difference between a 10 Pro and a 10 Pro XL. It is only when you finally get closer that you see that the XL is larger.

The Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL, see a new Moonstone, a light green Jade, Porcelain, and Obsidian colorways. Both the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL are available for pre-orders starting today (Aug 20) for $999 and $1,199, respectively.

Here comes the Pixel 10 Pro Fold

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is super tough, being the most durable foldable phone out there with IP68 dust and water resistance. Plus, it's the first foldable to pack Qi2 charging!

Google claims that the latest model now features a new "gearless" hinge. This makes the phone "twice as durable" and can handle over 10 years of folding. Speaking of the display, the fold gets a large 8-inch Super ActuaFlex inner display and a 6.4-inch cover display with much thinner bezels compared to its predecessor.

Internally, the fold also sees Google's new Tensor G5 chip that helps with "powerful" AI capabilities (Gemini Live, Magic Cue, and the Daily Hub) for processing your daily tasks and ensuring your mobile games remain smooth.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold features a squared triple camera array on its rear panel, with a 48MP main (wide) camera, a 10.5MP ultra-wide camera, and a 10.8MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and Super Res Zoom up to 20x. The cover display's camera is 10MP, the same as the inner display's lens.

Also, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, unlike the rest of the lineup, gets a physical SIM slot. Google states users still have its physical SIM, as well as an eSIM option. The device shows up in two new colorways: Moonstone and Jade, and is priced at $1,799.

Pixelsnap MagSafe chargers

Google didn't just roll out new phones today, but also an entire accessory lineup to go with its Pixel 10 series.

The phones, being the first Android phones to fully support Qi2 wireless charging, Google is introducing "Pixelsnap," a fresh set of magnetic accessories that "snap" into place.

From the Pixelsnap Charger (that looks a lot like the Pixel stand) to the Ring Stand, and even the Pixel Flex 67W dual-port charger for wired fans, Google’s coming in hot with its MagSafe-style accessories

The Pixelsnap Charger looks like a simple puck or is bundled with a stand. The stand is detachable, compact, and works even with the Fold open. The charger maxes out at 25W on the Pixel 10 Pro XL and 15W on the rest of the Qi2-ready lineup, including the Fold.

Next up is a more easy-to-carry, Pixelsnap Ring Stand, which doubles as a grip or a kickstand. And the Pixel 10 cases now support Pixelsnap, with colors ranging from Obsidian and Porcelain to brighter picks like Lemongrass and Indigo.

Pixel Watch 4

The pebble-like Pixel Watch 4 shows up in two sizes and seems to have retained its predecessor's look. The domed display offers a "nearly edgeless experience, meaning the smartwatch launched with 15% smaller bezels, giving users more screen space to work with. The display gets 3,000nits of peak brightness and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass protects the Pixel Watch 4's screen.

At its heart, the Pixel Watch 4 features the new Snapdragon W5 Gen 2, paired with the Cortex-M55 co-processor. This basically makes the smartwatch more equipped to handle AI and other daily tasks.

Google says the watch features a"custom speaker and haptic engine" for clearer audio and vibrations when talking to the AI. Google states that "soon," users will need only to "raise their wrist to talk to Gemini," hinting at new gestures that could launch in the weeks to come.

The 45mm boasts a 455mAh battery, providing ~40 hours with always-on display (AOD) or ~72 hours in battery saver mode. While the smaller 41mm has a smaller 325mAh battery, lasting ~30 hours with AOD or ~48 hours in battery saver mode.

The Pixel Watch 4 offers 40 exercise modes and other features like real-time SpO2 and heart rate variability tracking. What's more is that users get their readiness summary ( much like Oura's readiness score) of how their sleep was tracked the night before.

The Pixel Watch 4 is available for pre-orders today (Aug 20), and the 45mm is available for $399 Wi-Fi/$499 LTE, while the 41mm version costs $349 Wi-Fi/$449 LTE.

New available colors on the Pixel Watch 4, like Moonstone (45mm only) and the 41mm's Polished Silver body/Iris band, and its Champagne Gold body/Lemongrass band.

Pixel Buds 2a

The Pixel Buds 2a, the second iteration of Google's affordable earbuds, have arrived, and they finally get Active Noise Cancelation, which the company calls "Silent Seal 1.5."

From the looks of it, the Buds 2a resemble the Pixel Buds Pro 2 with a stemless design and oval-shaped white case with a "twist-to-adjust fit" seen on the Buds Pro 2. The Pixel Buds 2a are powered by Google's Tensor A1 chipset, which seamlessly integrates Gemini's powers. For instance, you can ask the buds to summarize messages, check your schedule, or look up cafe recommendations without having to reach for your phone.

The Pixel Buds 2a get upto 7 hours with ANC turned on and up to 20 hours with the case. With ANC off, Google says the Pixel Buds 2a can deliver up to 2x battery life as the first-generation Pixel Buds A-series.

The Pixel Buds 2a start at $129 and will be available in two colors: Iris and Hazel. You can pre-order them starting today.

Google also launched the existing Pixel Buds Pro 2 in a new Moonstone colorway. The tech giant said new features like Adaptive Audio and Loud Noise Protection are coming to the Pixel Buds Pro 2 "next month."

There's Gemini, then there's more Gemini

Backing Google's tagline "Ask more of your phone," the tech giant is launching AI-powered features like Magic Cue, which suggests helpful actions by "connecting the dots" across apps like Gmail, Calendar, and Messages.

For example, if a friend asks to see your dinner photos, Magic Cue can suggest opening your gallery. If someone asks about your flight, it can pull that information from your Gmail so you can easily share it.

This AI tool is integrated into the Pixel 10's Daily Hub, which gives you a personalized breakdown of your day and recommended music based on your preferences. Other AI capabilities on the Pixel 10 series include a new and improved Gemini Live, which now allows you to share your camera with the AI, and it will circle or highlight the solutions to your problems.

Some of the other AI tools include Voice Translate, Take a Message, and a new Pixel Journal that offers AI-generated writing prompts when you need some inspiration to jot down your thoughts.

Furthermore, Google launched an AI health coach that is said to be a "fitness trainer, sleep coach, and wellness advisor" all in one. To break things down for you, this coach looks at all your wellness metrics, goals, and real-life circumstances and personalizes its advice for you.

For example, the health coach doubles as your personal trainer and asks you about your goals, preferences, and equipment. Based on your answers, it will provide detailed workout suggestions and more. The AI coach is supposedly equipped to help you through your rest days as well, and in case you pull a muscle during a workout, it will guide you with stretches to recover from it.

You'll also be able to ask the AI coach questions like "should I get an extra hour of sleep or workout tomorrow morning?" or simple ones like "what are the best exercises for weight loss?" and the trainer will provide "personalized answers."

Additionally, Fitbit's premium users also get to use this AI Health Coach within the redesigned Fitbit app, which will roll out with "coaching and AI at its core."

You can only go one of two ways when buying the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold

Since the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold only comes in two colors, the choice you have to make is really straightforward. If you want to stick with a more professional, business-friendly look, then the mature Moonstone colorway is more suitable for you. This grayish blue silver isn't as brash or loud as the Jade colorway. It looks high-end through and through, but without overimposing.

On the other hand, if you want a shade that's more out there, the Jade colorway of the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is the picture of perfection. Its luxurious gold accents, like the frame and camera bar, look divine. The light green body looks light and fresh while maintaining that expensive appearance.

Don't forget to take into account whether you already own or are planning to purchase more Google Pixel devices to go with your Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds Pro 2 come in matching shades like Moonstone. If you want a more unified, on-brand shade, getting everything in Moonstone isn't a bad idea.

Most importantly, have fun with your choice! This is an expensive phone and if you're treating yourself, make a purchase that makes you smile every time you look at it.

Is the Google Pixel 10 eSIM-only?

The Google Pixel 10 has dual eSIMs in the U.S.

The Google Pixel 10 series is here, and the device, along with its sister devices, the Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, boast tons of impressive features, including simplified and more intelligent Google AI and a durable and seamless design. One question many have, however, is whether the Google Pixel 10 is eSIM only, meaning you can’t use a physical SIM card.

The Google Pixel 10, and all the new Google Pixel devices, for that matter, have not just one eSIM but dual eSIMs in the U.S. This means you can have two eSIMs active on the phone at the same time. This could be a personal and a work number, for example, or a local one and one local to your secondary office in another city or even country.

Further, those in the U.S. can store eight or more eSIMs and swap among them. You can make good use of the option if you travel a lot for work, for example, and you want to have a local number wherever you go. You don’t have to worry about getting a temporary local SIM card to swap into the device. You could also use this feature to load different travel eSIMs.

The dual SIM design in other countries

For users in other countries, including Canada, you get dual SIMs as well, but one is a physical nano SIM and the other is an eSIM. So, you get the best of both worlds: an eSIM embedded into the hardware that is activated digitally and a physical card if you want to transfer one from an older phone, for example.

Google says that the decision to go eSIM-only in the U.S. helps the company achieve its "cleanest Pixel designs yet with no SIM tray, no visible mmWave antenna cutout and the new elegant speaker mesh found on the bottom of our two pro models." Since mmWave is a frequency range predominantly utilized by U.S. carriers, it may explain the limited move to eSIM-only.

However, in other countries, you can still swap between two numbers, including one via eSIM and one via nanoSIM. Presumably, however, only one can be active at a time.

Can you convert a physical SIM to an eSIM?

If you’re getting the Google Pixel 10 in the U.S., you'll need to convert the existing SIM card in your current phone to a digital one. This will work for any carrier that supports eSIM activations.

You may, however, have to reach out to your carrier first to facilitate the conversion process. They can help you achieve this through various methods, which can include a QR code, a digital activation code, or a setup process through an app.

Once you’re done installing, you’ll need to deactivate the physical SIM and remove it from the old device. You can then switch over to the new phone using the eSIM, and it will work smoothly as butter.

The wait may be disappointing, but that simply gives you more time to take advantage of the preorder deals detailed above. It should also give us time to thoroughly test review units of the Pixel Watch 4 before its official street date.

The wearable utilizes the innovative Wear OS 6 Material 3 Expressive UI while delivering snappy performance from the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 chip. You also get a considerable boost in battery life, upgraded dual-frequency GPS, and instant access to all the new AI-boosted Fitbit features when those go live in October. Should Pixel Watch 3 owners plan to upgrade when the new watch hits store shelves? It depends, but I certainly wouldn't consider it without a good deal attached.

Is the Google Pixel 10 waterproof?

What is the waterproof rating for the Google Pixel 10?

Like most phones in its class, the Google Pixel 10 series has an IP68 water-resistant rating. Some phones, like the OnePlus 13 and Motorola Moto G Power 2025, boast both an IP68 and IP69 rating. The Google Pixel 10 isn’t quite as durable, but it’s in line with most other premium devices.

What does an IP68 rating mean? IP stands for Ingress Protection, a standard set by the International Electrotechnical Commission to indicate a device’s resistance against both dust and water. The first number pertains to resistance against dust, and the second to water.

In the case of the Google Pixel 10, it has a “6” rating against dust and an “8” rating against water. Six means total protection against dust. The phone is completely sealed, preventing small dust particles from getting inside and potentially damaging the device.

The “8” for water resistance means the phone can be submerged in up to a meter of water for up to 30 minutes. So, it can withstand a dunk in a pool, an accidental drop in the toilet (oops!), or even a run in the rain.

Since the Google Pixel 10 does not meet an IP69 rating, you'll want to avoid close-range, high-pressure, and high-temperature sprays during activities like water sports, a hose, or even a dishwasher. You might want to tuck it away if you’re going jet skiing and refrain from popping it into the top rack of your dishwasher before a load (thankfully, that’s not tough to avoid doing).

Even with this level of water resistance (few electronic devices are fully waterproof), it’s important to avoid contact with saltwater. IP ratings are for freshwater sources, while saltwater can corrode components in any electronic device. You should heed caution in heavily chlorinated water, such as a public indoor pool. But a traditional outdoor pool should be fine, provided the chlorine levels are not through the roof.

You should also avoid using the phone in spaces like a hot tub where the temperature can be scalding. Either way, it’s a good idea to rinse the phone off with freshwater and dry it off after any exposure to moisture.

It's also worth noting that water resistance for any device degrades over time. So, be more cautious as the phone gets older. Consider investing in a waterproof case or pouch if you want to ensure the device is sufficiently protected. But for everyday use outdoors in inclement weather, in the pool, heck, even in the bathtub, go wild. This phone can take it.

The Google Pixel 10 is poised to become the best Google Pixel phone with plenty of significant upgrades that provide a high-end experience at an affordable price.

Four Pixel 10 Pro colors, one choice

It might be the same size as the base Pixel 10, but the Google Pixel 10 Pro does not have the same specs or the same colorways. You have four options when looking to buy the 10 Pro: Moonstone, Jade, Porcelain, and Obsidian. There's no right or wrong answer here. Go with your gut.

I adore smartphones and wearables with golden metal bits because it matches my existing jewelry. That's why the Jade green option is my favorite. Think of what your favorite color is and find something that's the same or close to it in the Pixel 10 Pro color portfolio.

If you don't care for bright shades, I highly recommend playing it safe with the gray-blue Moonstone option. It's a professional colorway that looks fantastic and isn't boring like Obsidian. Sure, you might automatically want to just get the black one and call it a day. But if you're going to do that, at least get something a little less unoriginal by getting the Moonstone option.

Google upgraded the Pixel 10 Pro Fold's durability to meet the IP68 certification standards. For perspective, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has an IPX8 rating. It's important to remember that in an ingress protection (IP) rating, the first number signifies dust resistance and the second signifies water resistance. That means the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will have greater dust protection, but the same water resistance, as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Conventionally, the IP68 rating is considered to be the highest protection level for electronics against dust and water ingress. Products that meet this threshold must be able to be submerged in fresh water greater than one meter in depth for 30 minutes. Since the Pixel 10 Pro Fold sports an IP68 rating, it'll be able to survive 30 minutes in one meter of water.

The newer IPX9 certification adds protection against high-pressure and high-temperature water jets, but does not increase the time or depth a phone can be submerged underwater.

It's important to note that the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is not waterproof. There are limits to water resistance, and Google explains these in the footnotes for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold product page.

"Designed to comply with water protection rating IPX8 under IEC standard 60529 when each device leaves the factory but device is not waterproof or dust proof," the company states. "Water resistance is not a permanent condition, and diminishes or is lost over time due to normal wear and tear, device repair, disassembly or damage."

The way to interpret this is simple. Every time your phone is dropped or scratched, there's a chance that its water-resistance capabilities worsen. As such, a two-year-old phone won't have the same water resistance as a brand-new one. Protection against liquids that are not freshwater, including saltwater, is not covered under the IPX8 rating either.

In other words, you shouldn't count on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold being waterproof. It offers an IP68 rating with the same water resistance as its predecessor. However, the phone's water resistance is designed for accidents and emergencies rather than intentional use in the water. Once again, it's not waterproof by any means.

Don't be disappointed, because the Pixel 10 Pro Fold's IP68 rating means that it is completely dustproof — a first for a foldable sold in the U.S.

Select a Google Pixel 10 color based on your preferences

Cleanliness and long-term wear are primary points of concern when choosing a phone color to buy. Lighter colors tend to get dirtier faster. Dirt is also more noticeable on lighter shades. However, since most folks use phone cases anyway, I say pick something that matches your style and preferences. Besides, you should develop the habit of cleaning your phone more regularly anyway.

On to the best shades of the Pixel 10. My personal favorite is the vibrant Indigo blue. It is a particularly vivid shade of royal blue that suits the design language and curves of the Pixel 10 spectacularly well. Blue isn't a unique color in itself, but the vibrancy of this shade is eye-catching.

If you're looking to avoid making a loud statement with the color of your phone, then perhaps you should consider quieter colors like Frost or Obsidian. I know a lot of people just get the color that's black or closest to it and call it a day. For those types of people, the dark ashy Obsidian is a good pick as it's almost black.

Previously, not all Google Pixel colorways would be offered in all memory options. Mercifully, Google did away with that policy with the Pixel 10, so you can get any memory option for each of the four Pixel 10 shades.

Does the Google Pixel 10 support Qi2 magnetic charging?

The Qi2 wireless charging standard is available with or without the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP). Phones with the MPP have built-in magnets that connect with Qi2 or MagSafe chargers and accessories. Those without magnets inside can only support Qi2 Ready, which requires a magnetic case to unlock full magnetic alignment. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy S25 series supports Qi2 Ready, but the HMD Skyline includes magnets for the complete experience.

Google took the latter route with the Pixel 10. It built the Qi2 magnets right into each Google Pixel 10 model, including the standard Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. That means every model will work with Qi2, MagSafe, or Pixelsnap chargers and accessories with precise alignment because they have the Magnetic Power Profile built in.

Google's "Pixelsnap" lineup of Qi2 accessories for the Pixel 10 launch is effectively a competitor to MagSafe. It's a collection of unique, first-party accessories that utilize magnetic connection with the Qi2 hardware inside each Pixel 10 model.

As a consequence, every Google Pixel 10 model is heavier than its Pixel 9 counterpart. Only one model — the Pixel 10 Pro XL — matches the thickness of the phone it is replacing; the rest are heavier. A thicker and heavier Pixel 10 lineup is perplexing at first glance, but the addition of magnets inside helps explain the discrepancy.

The Pixel 10 series is the first flagship Android lineup to include built-in magnetic charging support. Notably, only the top-end Pixel 10 Pro XL supports Qi2.2 25W speeds, with the rest supporting the standard Qi2 charging rate of 15W.

When I reviewed the Pixel Watch 3, one of my few complaints was its unreliable GPS accuracy. Any trees, buildings, or other signal blockages would send my workout line careening off course, messing with my total run distance. It made it hard to recommend the Watch 3 to runners, despite the useful coaching and training load tools.

Turns out, the Pixel Watch team read my review. They emailed me prior to launch, asking if I wanted to learn more about their new L5 GPS tracking and how it works.

I won't know how good the Pixel Watch 4 dual-frequency GPS is until I test it myself, sometime around its October 9 release date. But Shah said all the right things to suggest they understand why better GPS accuracy matters to runners so much.

How dual-frequency GPS works, and why it matters

By default, a standard fitness watch uses L1 GPS, the oldest signal standard available. It's perfectly capable of tracking you in an open field, but the low-powered signal is easily refracted by "urban canyons and highly dense tree areas," Shah explained. They skew your detected position and make it hard for GPS satellites to reacquire your location.

L5 GPS signals have existed for a decade, but are still considered cutting-edge. Initially designed for aircraft guidance where exact positioning is essential, L5 GPS has a more stable signal with a wider bandwidth, capable of cutting through signal noise.

Fewer satellites are capable of broadcasting L5 signals, and it has a higher power demand. But as a secondary source, they can pinpoint you in tandem with L1 signals, ensuring that your location is accurate...in theory.

In practice, some dual-frequency GPS watches are more accurate than others. It's as much about the watch's satellite chip and any course-correcting software as the L5 signal itself.

"Dual-band GPS was one of our key interest areas," Shah explained. They wanted to "truly solve users' problems" with their workout data, in response to customer feedback from athletes who were frustrated with their wobbly GPS-only data (myself included).

Shah doesn't think this is a niche feature, either. Dual-frequency GPS "truly elevates the running experience" because your "real-time pace is a lot more accurate." Serious runners need to gauge how fast their target race pace feels, while casual runners must ensure they don't overtrain or develop a false sense of security.

On that same note, Shah says better GPS accuracy is really important for your "post-workout summaries." Google relies on your workout data to inform its new Fitbit AI coach, which judges how fit you are and recommends detailed workout plans; so you want its data on you to be as accurate as possible.

How Google made its dual-frequency GPS more accurate

The Pixel Watch 4 has help on this front, as the first smartwatch to use the new Snapdragon W5 Gen 2. This new chipset doesn't offer any major performance boost, but it features a new RFFE for location-based machine learning. According to Qualcomm, a dual-band Gen 2 watch will be 50% more accurate than a standard GPS-only watch in challenging areas.

Shah said that "it has been great" working with them, and that the "Watch 4 hardware enabled us to go in the direction of dual-band GPS." But he played things a bit coy when I asked how much of the Pixel Watch 4's accuracy comes from them, and how much comes from Qualcomm.

That said, Shah made it clear that the product management team had to do a lot of work to pull dual-frequency GPS off, and that it wasn't just Qualcomm's new hardware.

They had to collect "thousands of hours of data" from around the world to make sure that the Watch 4's dual-frequency GPS worked properly. Unlike Garmin watches, which simultaneously use dual-frequency GPS and other GNSS like GLONASS or GALILEO, the Pixel Watch 4 relies globally on L1 + L5 GPS.

According to Shah, it's dual-frequency GPS that provides the "most accurate route tracking possible" in all Pixel Watch 4 markets, making other satellite system data redundant.

He also acknowledged that dual-frequency GPS typically has a major impact on battery life, which they take "very seriously." So they "did their due diligence" and found a way to implement it so that the "performance of the battery isn't impacted much." Because of that, there's no way to choose GPS-only tracking to save battery life; dual-frequency GPS will be the only option.

While Shah wouldn't discuss future features or updates, he said that the Pixel Watch team plans to continue to deliver the "best of the best" fitness hardware, and that he's excited for me to try out the Pixel Watch 4's dual-frequency GPS accuracy for myself.

I recently reviewed the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic and found that its dual-band GPS wasn't nearly as precise as I'd expect, and that its live pace data was consistently off my real-world pace. So there's room for the Pixel Watch 4 to swoop in as a much better Android running watch option, if its accuracy lives up to Shah's hype.

If it does, the Pixel Watch 4 could easily become one of the best running watches of the year. I'm not taking it for granted until I test the GPS for myself, particularly around forests, buildings, and tracks. But Shah seems supremely confident that his team's watch will live up to the challenge.

How to choose which Pixel Watch 4 color you should buy

Looking at watch case colors alone, the Google Pixel Watch 4 comes in four shades. These are Matte Black, Satin Moonstone, Champagne Gold, and Polished Silver. The first two are matte, whereas the last two are shiny finishes. Going off the case size alone, Champagne Gold is limited to 41mm, whereas Satin Moonstone is limited to 45mm variants of the Pixel Watch 4.

Thus, before you finalize a color to buy, you actually need to figure out what size smartwatch fits your wrist best. Once you've got that sorted, you can check whether the colorway of your liking is available in that case size.

For small-handed folks such as myself, I highly recommend the Champagne Gold 41mm option of the Pixel Watch 4. While I'm not a big fan of the dull lime green Lemongrass Active Band it comes with, you can always swap out the band later, so it's not a big issue.

I always get the Champagne Gold colorway of Google's wearables because it looks gorgeous when worn, and it just goes with everything. It complements a diverse range of skin tones and undertones, so it's the shade I tend to recommend the most.

As for the larger 45mm Pixel Watch 4 size, the new Satin Moonstone color is a stunning option. Since it's new with this generation, it signifies the generation of your Pixel Watch instantly. It also has matching counterparts across the Google portfolio, such as the Pixel 10 Pro or 10 Pro XL, as well as the Pixel Buds Pro 2.

That's because phones like the Google Pixel 9 use displays that rapidly flicker on and off at a rate most people's eyes can't see, but our brains can definitely feel. It's known as PWM dimming, and while some companies have been working on solutions, Samsung and Google phones haven't seen any real improvements in years. That starts to change with the Pixel 10 Pro series.

A new accessibility setting called "Adjust brightness for sensitive eyes" at least doubles the PWM rate of the Pixel 10 Pro family's displays. We saw this leak a few months back and it's great to see that Google is working on a potential solution for flicker-sensitive users.

While I haven't had the chance to do in-depth testing on this new feature just yet, I was able to see it in action during my Google Pixel 10 hands-on. As far as I can tell, enabling this feature ramps up the PWM rate to 480Hz, something Samsung did with the Galaxy S24 family.

The new feature is only available on the Google Pixel 10 Pro and Google Pixel 10 Pro XL. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold features the setting only for the inner display, which makes sense since the outer display is more or less the same one on the base Pixel 10, and that phone doesn't support the new "sensitive eyes" feature, either.

If you've been following along with our coverage over the past few years, you may already know that 480Hz is still not fast enough to solve the problem, according to research on the matter. Phones like the OnePlus 13 use 2160Hz PWM only at low brightness, while the Honor Magic 7 Pro ramps that up to 4320Hz.

I'm not ready to give a comfort rating verdict on Google's new display accessibility option just yet, but I do want to celebrate the victory of at least getting this important setting changed. Flicker sensitivity has been on the rise as LEDs and related LED technology have proliferated in modern society, especially since many companies don't follow basic IEEE standards for flicker protection established in 2015.

No matter the verdict, though, this is a true victory for users looking for hope of relief in the future. Companies like Google are listening, and that's a big deal for anyone affected.

It depends on what you're looking for in a smartphone! All three devices in the flagship lineup will give you ultra-efficient performance with powerful cameras and a bunch of fun AI features, but that doesn't mean that all three of the devices are made equal.

Starting at $799, the Google Pixel 10 will give you the perfect entry-level experience, with a 6.3-inch OLED display, 12GB of RAM, and a long-lasting 4,970mAh battery. If you need a bit more power, you can upgrade to the Pixel 10 Pro and receive 16GB of RAM, better camera tech, and up to 1TB of storage. The Pixel 10 Pro XL is very similar to the standard Pixel 10 Pro, you just get a larger 6.8-inch Super Actua OLED display with a considerable boost in battery size.

No matter which Google Pixel 10 model you choose, all three devices boast the Tensor G5 chipset with a ton of AI-boosted software features and seven years of software support guaranteed. Check the table below for some more granular info on the flagship series.

Well, the history of the Pixel Watch, up to this point, invokes one of my favorite memes from that movie. With the Pixel Watch one and two, Google had my curiosity, and with the larger Pixel Watch 3, Google had my attention.

Can the Pixel Watch 4 keep my attention and earn my love? After my interview with Google’s Pixel Watch 4 design manager, Lily Darling, and Ryan Krems, who’s on the product team, focusing on the software side of things, it sounds like an experience that may indeed tug on my heartstrings. Hear me them out…

From ideation to jubilation: The teams behind the design

Lily Darling is responsible for a lot of the visual and motion changes you’re going to see on the Pixel Watch 4, so we began our interview with her behind-the-scenes take on the upgrades Google’s hoping you’re going to love.

Lily: You're going to see this is the most robust design and system overhaul since the first Pixel Watch. So this is really going to signal a big step change there. And something we've really focused on is making the hardware and the software really feel cohesive as one. And that was something very, very important to us from the beginning. And then the other part of this was really making your phone or your foldable also really match your watch for the first time. So we hadn't had that level of cohesion, either.

You’ve heard about the domed display and how it’s the first of its kind. So much was inspired by that, the shape, the motion, the color, and then how everything comes together.

And, we had this challenge of how are we going to make a user interface that is as beautiful to enhance that dome display? So that was one part of the challenge. And then we also had research from multiple design studies, which we conducted, that told us that our users really appreciate user interfaces that aren't just functional, but are truly expressive. And so this evolved into a design system update that became Material 3 Expressive, which really built on our kind of 2020 update, which was called Material You.

We're looking at, you know, how the bands look when you use different tones, and when you see different shapes underneath the glass, what does the glass do?

Lily would go on to talk about how important fluidity was and how that translated into scrolling animations, springy buttons, and motion physics across Pixel phones and watches. But this year, they took that multiple steps further with the new, brighter, domed display with buttons and on-screen elements that hug the dome’s curves and don’t waste space.

From a more functional perspective, though, this was the year of “cohesion,” which meant bringing the level of user interface customizability from the phone to the watch.

Lily: The color that you choose for your watch face now themes your entire system and Google Apps, and that's kind of a game changer that just really makes the device feel like yours. And there's so much choice. With the themes, we're able to pull all the color swatches, all the bands together, and develop palettes that have something that's extremely wearable for everyone.

Lily: One of my new favorites [watchfaces] is Corsa. It's so beautiful. It has all these finely crafted indices that rotate around the display. And it's got an analog feel, but it has this really stylish contemporary feel as well. And when you add it with these colorways, you get these kind of unexpected results that feel just super fresh. We really can’t wait for [the public] to see it. When you hold it, you have a sensory feeling with it, and then you see the UI come to life.

This is all playing out this year thanks to a Pixel Watch 4 Actua 360 display that has 10% more pixels and 16% smaller bezels. The team really focused on moving everything that appears on the watchfaces out to the edges of that Actua 360 but there’s much more to the hardware and software improvements, some significant evolutions that Ryan dove into.

Ryan: With Pixel Watch 4, we have a new co-processor. That new co-processor is 25% more performant, but more importantly, it's 50% more efficient. So this really helps drive that improved battery life for your all-day scenarios, because that's powering your all-day tracking for health, fitness, and your motion. [For example] your race to talk algorithms, those are all running on that co-processor.

For our stated [battery life] numbers, we have 30 hours for our 41 millimeter and 40 hours for our 45 millimeter. So a 25% increase in general. Then, on the battery saver mode, we'll have two days for the 41 millimeter and three days for the 45 millimeter.

With that "new" Cortex-M55 co-processor, I also needed to know how the inclusion of Gemini plays out in your daily fitness routines, along with the new AI coach in the Fitbit app. There wasn’t a lot of information they could provide at the moment on Gemini, but Ryan did tell me that the new AI coach experience within the Fitbit app will be driven by not only the Pixel Watch but legacy and current Fitbit devices as well. That will be part of the new Fitbit app experience and will see some expansion over time.

Though the Pixel Watch line doesn’t currently have a “rugged” version like Samsung or Apple, the team has implemented some hardware features that compete with the “Ultras.” The most important is L5, or dual-band GPS.

When our resident wearables reviewer, Michael Hicks, gets his hands on the Pixel Watch 4, we’ll see how reliable that implementation is, but the fact that it's there is a promising addition to the offering.

Another new charger? Yes. Another new charger

Something not as grandiose as dual-band GPS is a quality-of-life improvement. Those may sound like little things on paper, but in practice, they can make a big difference in how you use a product. In this instance, one of their most significant improvements may irk some users: another new charger.

I’ll have to see for myself when I have my time with the watch, but the gains from this year’s charger might do a lot to assuage some frustrations.

Ryan: There is this journey, though, between just the device's battery life and also the charging and the time to charge. So with this cradle, we're able to get 25% improved charging over the Pixel Watch 3, which had improved charging over the two, right? We're now zero to 50% in 15 minutes. It is a shocking difference. It changes the way you use the watch.

As we talked more about this, Ryan clued me in on one other seemingly slight improvement that I gladly welcome: you no longer need to worry about aligning the watch on the charger correctly. With the Pixel Watch 3, placing it on the charger is like plugging in an old school USB cable; which direction is the right one? The new charger is more frictionless in that regard.

Ryan: For the side charging and our cradle, we came about this through a very diligent process. You’ll feel it when you have this cradle. It just snaps right in [so] you don't have to align anything. You go place your watch, the UI rotates, and it shows you the time. It shows you the current charge level, and the time to full.

Some bits about fitness. Fitbits?

We also talked about the fitness features and what improvements we’ll see there. You already know now that there is dual-band GPS for outdoor enthusiasts, but what about those of us “gym rats” who prioritize rep counting over satellite connectivity for our fitness needs?

Ryan: On the device, we've improved our activity recognition. [Pixel Watch 4] has a much deeper set of underlying machine learning models to more accurately categorize your workout events, and then it will grow and learn over time as well. We also have bike transmit. This turns your phone into a bike computer. You transmit all of your stats [from your watch] to your phone as you're commuting on your bike.

Closing expressions

Of all the Q&As that took place over the course of this interview, one of the notes that stood out to me most was this quote below. I’ll touch on why in a moment.

Lily: I think that the fact that we were thinking across form factor, not just about the watch, we were really thinking like, what does this decision mean for every form factor? How do we bring that cohesion, but also bring things that feel very bespoke and right for the watch, since it's round, you know, versus the phone or foldable?

For me, what has made Samsung Galaxy and Apple watches stand out over the years, above and beyond watches whose form factors I may have liked more, is the cohesion within their respective ecosystems. Those watches feel like true extensions of their phones and tablets, but with features that make the watches unique and feel much more valuable than just being a second screen for your phone, as they did in the early days of smartwatches.

With the Pixel Watch 4, it seems that Google’s wearable line may hit its stride, and provide that Google ecosystem cohesion that has made its competition tough to beat in the wearable space, unless you’re a triathlete looking for a very niche, sport-specific wearable.

And if that’s the case, I’ll gladly throw out another Leonardo DiCaprio meme because more high-quality options for consumers are always worth celebrating.

• On Pixel 10, you can now just tell Google Photos what changes you want by voice or text, and it’ll handle the rest.
• Tap or circle parts of your photo and Photos will offer AI-powered fixes for distractions, lighting, or other tweaks.
• You can ask for multiple edits in one go, and beyond fixes, you can swap backgrounds, add fun items, or try bold creative edits.

Google is making photo editing in Google Photos feel more like a conversation. Starting with the Google Pixel 10 in the U.S., users can now ask Photos to make edits using plain language, either by typing or speaking.

The update builds on Google’s redesigned photo editor, which already made editing faster by combining multiple AI-powered suggestions and putting all tools in one easy-to-access place. Now, you can simply tap or circle areas in a photo, and Photos will suggest edits for that specific spot, like removing distractions, without fiddling with sliders or menus.

Speak it, see it — photos edited instantly

With conversational editing, you don’t need to know which tools to use. Ask for precise changes like “remove the cars in the background” or broader edits like “restore this old photo,” and Photos gets it.

You can even layer multiple requests in one go, such as “remove reflections and fix the washed-out colors.” If you’re unsure where to start, a simple “make it better” will get the ball rolling, with the option to tweak results afterward.

All these edits were already tucked into Google Photos, but now you can just tell Gemini what to fix without needing to hunt for the right slider or tool. If you like polishing your pics but get tangled in all the options, this makes it way simpler to get them looking exactly how you want.

The update also opens the door for more creative touches. Users can swap backgrounds, add playful elements like party hats or sunglasses, or try other imaginative edits, all without worrying about the technical side of editing.

Transparency built in

Pixel 10 owners will also get the first taste of industry-standard C2PA Content Credentials in Google Photos. This feature shows how images were captured or edited, whether AI was involved or not.

Google is rolling this out alongside existing tools like IPTC metadata for AI-edited photos and SynthID for Reimagine edits. Over the coming weeks, these transparency features will expand to Android and iOS devices, letting users see the story behind every photo.

Powered by Google’s Gemini models, these updates are aimed to show how AI can simplify, speed up, and enhance photo editing while keeping things understandable and transparent.

They're finally official. At today's Made by Google launch event, alongside the Pixel 10 series and Pixel Watch 4, Google also unveiled its new affordable earbuds, the Pixel Buds 2a. Priced at $129, the Pixel Buds 2a bring several features from the pricier Pixel Buds Pro 2 to a more affordable tier.

The Pixel Buds 2a succeed the Pixel Buds A-series, which launched in 2021, and are the first affordable Google earbuds to offer Active Noise Cancelation, which the company calls Silent Seal 1.5. For comparison, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 use Silent Seal 2.0, so noise cancelation will likely be less effective here — though we'll need to test to confirm.

From the outside, the Buds 2a resemble the Pixel Buds Pro 2 with a stemless design and oval-shaped white case. They also carry the twist-to-adjust fit we loved on the Buds Pro 2. Google says the earbuds are IP54 rated, so they should handle sweat and occasional rain.

Pixel Buds 2a are Google's first affordable earbuds to offer ANC

Under the hood, the Pixel Buds 2a run on Google's Tensor A1 chipset, enabling Gemini support. You can ask the buds to summarize messages, check your schedule, or even request coffee recommendations without pulling out your phone. Thanks to the new processor, custom speaker driver, and high-frequency chamber, Google says music and podcasts on the Buds 2a "sound incredible."

In terms of battery life, Google claims up to 7 hours with ANC turned on and up to 20 hours with the case. With ANC off, Google says the Pixel Buds 2a can deliver up to 2x battery life as the first-generation Pixel Buds A-series.

What's interesting is that Google mentions the Buds 2a's case has a replaceable battery. This means if your Buds' case stops working, malfunctions, or wears out, Google would replace the case's battery without replacing the earbuds themselves, unlike before.

The Pixel Buds 2a are also Find Hub-compatible, which means you see their location in the app. You can also ring the device when it's nearby to find it faster.

The Pixel Buds 2a start at $129 and will be available in two colors: Iris and Hazel. You can pre-order them starting today, and they'll be available on the Google Store as well as retailers like Amazon and Best Buy starting October 9, 2025.

Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 get more features (and a new color)

Alongside the Pixel Buds 2a, Google also showcased a new colorway for the Pixel Buds Pro 2. The new color, called Moonstone, complements the new Pixel 10 Pro color.

Google also announced new features coming to the Pixel Buds Pro 2 "next month." Adaptive Audio is a new feature that will dynamically adjust your buds to your surroundings so you can stay aware while listening to podcasts and music. There's also new Loud Noise Protection that will protect your hearing if a sudden loud sound passes by.

Moreover, gestures are also coming to the Pixel Buds Pro 2. Similar to AirPods Pro 2, you'll now be able to nod or shake your head to accept incoming calls or dismiss replying to a text.

The new color for the Pixel Buds Pro 2 costs the same at $229 and will be available starting August 28, 2025, on the Google Store and other major retailers.

While the new Google Pixel Watch 4 may not look much different on the outside, Google is shipping serious software features inside. Alongside the new smartwatch, Google today unveiled an AI-powered personal health coach coming to Pixel Watch and Fitbit trackers.

Until now, Pixel Watches and Fitbit have been able to track your body vitals and provide suggestions, but the AI personal health coach takes it to the next level. Google says the new AI health coach is a "fitness trainer, sleep coach, and wellness advisor" all in one.

Fitness coach, powered by Google Gemini

The AI health coach takes your wellness metrics, goals, and real-life circumstances into consideration and adapts accordingly. For example, the health coach has a fitness trainer that, like your personal trainer, starts by asking about your goals, preferences and equipment. Based on your answers, it then comes up with detailed workout suggestions and metrics targets based on weekly progression.

The fitness trainer also adjusts workout plans based on your recovery. So if you've had a hard day and not recovered well, the trainer will suggest changes to your weekly plan to help you recover. Moreover, you can also tell the trainer how you're feeling anytime.

For example, if you tweak your back, the AI health coach can adjust your workout.

Similarly, the AI health coach also works to improve your sleep. Google says the new sleep coach has "advanced algorithms" that give you a more precise understanding of your sleep duration and stages. As you sleep more with your tracker on, the AI coach will give tips to improve your sleep quality over time.

The sleep coach also adjusts to your daily activity, so if you've had a hard workout, it'll add a few more minutes of sleep to recover better.

In addition to sleep and workout tips, you'll also be able to ask the AI coach questions like "should I get an extra hour of sleep or workout tomorrow morning?" or simple ones like "what are the best exercises for weight loss?" and the trainer will provide "personalized answers."

To make all of this work, Google announced a redesigned Fitbit app will roll out with "coaching and AI at its core." The app now shows metrics more clearly and includes tips up front with a prominent ask coach button for all your questions.

The AI personal health coach is powered by Google Gemini at the backend. It's great to see the company finally making use of the data and its advanced AI model to provide users with useful features and tips.

Google says the coach will learn more about your habits and health as you use it, and the feature supports data from both Health Connect and HealthKit, so it can understand even more of your wellness data.

The AI personal health coach will launch as a preview for Fitbit Premium users in the U.S. starting next month. You can sign up for the preview now to get access as soon as it's available.

The day's finally arrived for the Pixel Watch 4's launch, and Google's main event delivered every single detail.

This afternoon (Aug 20), the Pixel Watch 4 debuted during the Made by Google event in NYC. Similar to the company's previous release, the Pixel Watch 4 arrives in a 45mm and a 41 mm size variant. When it comes to the display, Google states its watches have been outfitted with an Actua 360 domed display that offers a "nearly edgeless experience." More importantly, this year's Pixel Watch boasts 15% smaller bezels, meaning consumers will have more screen to play with.

The Pixel Watch 4 has also been gifted a 50% brighter display, with Google stating it can reach 3,000nits of peak brightness. Corning Gorilla Glass protects the Pixel Watch 4's screen. Google highlights the device's repairability focus, stating that consumers can replace its display and battery; however, "servicability options may vary depending on region and availability."

When it comes to features and power, the Pixel Watch 4 rocks the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2, paired with the Cortex-M55 co-processor.

Of course, Gemini is present throughout the Pixel Watch 4 (much like the rest of Google's releases today). The company states the device features a new "custom speaker and haptic engine" for clearer audio and vibrations when talking to the AI. Google states that "soon," users will need only "raise their wrist to talk to Gemini. Right now, Gemini can answer questions about your emails (Gmail) and Calendar events to help keep you updated, while also helping you create a playlist for a road trip.

Additionally, users will find the Loss of Pulse safety feature, previously debuted on the Pixel Watch 3. Safety Check is included, alongside Emergency sharing, Fall Detection, and Car Crash Detection. Launching with the Pixel Watch 4 is SOS Satellite Communication capabilities, making it the "first smartwatch" to deliver such a feature.

Fitness & Health

Aside from wristbound AI and safety tools, the Pixel Watch 4 is stated to deliver users "holistic health insights," courtesy of a range of heart-focused features. Thanks to the ECG app, the Pixel Watch 4 can detail its AFib assessment of your heart, clueing you into any irregular heartbeats, and provide "alerts" if your heart rate has stepped outside its normal range.

When it comes to stress, the Pixel Watch 4's body-response sensor is said to help users understand what is stressing their bodies out "in real-time." Other key health analytics, such as your SpO2 and heart rate variability, return for the 4th-gen watch, with accompanying alerts in case you're metrics are a little abnormal, per your usual stats.

The Pixel Watch 4's sleep tracking capabilities will track and highlight the duration of your sleep and how long you've spent in light, deep, and REM stages. Google states users can add crucial health details about themselves on the Watch 4, such as their blood type, medication, and more, for emergency scenarios.

For users working on their fitness, the Pixel Watch 4 offers 40 exercise modes, as well as advanced running tools for runners. Before starting your day, Google highlights the Fitbit Morning Brief that arrives every morning for users with it enabled. Google states users will receive a "summary" of their readiness and how they slept the night before.

Lookin' stylish all-day long

While the Pixel Watch 4's 45mm and 41mm have remained pretty similar thus far, Google states that its provided battery life is where the two begin to differ.

The 45mm version is said to deliver a 455mAh battery that delivers ~40 hours with its AOD (always-on display) active and ~72 hours with its battery saver mode enabled. Fifteen minutes is reportedly all consumers will need to reach ~50% charge with the 45mm variant. The 41mm drops down slightly to a 325mAh battery. This is estimated to last ~30 hours with AOD enabled and ~48 hours with its battery saver mode.

More importantly, the Pixel Watch 4 received a change to its charging as the device no longer sports its pins on the rear panel. Google introduced a new Quick Charging Dock for the Pixel Watch 4's side-mounted charging. Now, while it's charging, your watch will show "key" information, such as the time, current percentage, upcoming alarms, and more.

Consumers will find Active Bands for both versions of the Pixel Watch 4 in two different sizes for your wrists. However, Google is highlighting new available colors, like Moonstone (45mm only) and the 41mm's Polished Silver body/Iris band and its Champagne Gold body/Lemongrass band. There's also a new Gradient Stretch Band for the watch, which is a soft, stretchy polyester yarn band for a more comfortable day-long fit.

The Pixel Watch 4 is available for pre-orders today (Aug 20) ahead of its expected October 9 market launch. The 45mm is available for $399 Wi-Fi/$499 LTE, while the 41mm version costs $349 Wi-Fi/$449 LTE.

The Google Pixel 10 series is finally here, and while not much has changed from the Pixel 9 series, Google is packing serious upgrades, especially into the baseline Pixel 10. The phone now comes with the TSMC-made Tensor G5 chipset, Qi2 magnetic charging, and, for the first time, a telephoto sensor, all while keeping the $799 price tag.

That said, the company isn't offering the same perks to all Pixel 10 buyers, as the baseline Pixel 10 misses out on the free year of Google AI Pro plan that comes with pricier models.

Google, in the footnotes of its Pixel 10 press release, notes the free Google AI Pro offer is available only to Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold users. This means if you buy a base Pixel 10, you cannot redeem this offer in the Google One app and must spend at least $1000 for a Pro model to be eligible.

Free Google AI Pro is still locked to Pixel 10 Pro models only

The offer, for those unaware, allows Pixel 10 Pro users to subscribe to the Google AI Pro plan for free (worth $240) that gives you access to the latest Gemini models as well as features like Gemini in Google Workspace apps such as Gmail and Docs, for up to one year. The plan also includes 2TB of free Google storage shared across Photos and Drive, but it looks like the base Pixel 10 again misses out.

If you have an eligible Google Pixel 10 series phone, you can redeem the offer by going into the Google One app on your device. You have until October 31, 2026, i.e., more than a year from now, to claim the offer, and once you do, you'll have Google AI Pro for free. After a year, the service will cost $20 a month.

If you happen to own a Google Pixel 10 series device, there are other ways of getting Google AI Pro for free, such as Gemini for students, which gives the same one-year AI Pro plan at no cost when using an education account.

Google isn’t just rolling out new phones today, but also building out an entire accessory lineup to match. Pixelsnap: Wireless charging with a magnetic twist

Qi2 isn’t just faster and more reliable than the old Qi standard, it also means Pixel 10 devices now play nice with MagSafe-style accessories. To take advantage of that, Google is debuting the Pixelsnap Charger, available as a simple puck or bundled with a stand.

The charger tops out at 25W on the Pixel 10 Pro XL and 15W on the rest of the Qi2-ready lineup, including the Fold. The stand is detachable, compact, and works even with the Fold open, which comes in handy if you’re charging while binge-watching.

If you want something more practical, there’s the Pixelsnap Ring Stand, which doubles as a grip or a kickstand. And if you like keeping your phone dressed up, all Pixel 10 cases now support Pixelsnap, with colors ranging from Obsidian and Porcelain to brighter picks like Lemongrass and Indigo.

For those who still prefer cables, the new Pixel Flex 67W dual-port charger pushes power to your Pixel while keeping a second device charged at the same time.

Pixel Watch 4: New bands, new dock

On the wearable side, the Pixel Watch 4 is getting a long list of new bands, plus a streamlined quick-charge dock. The dock connects via USB-C, uses magnetic pins, and is small enough to blend into your desk setup.

As for bands, there’s something for just about every style. The Active Band and Active Sport Band stick to practical, sweat-resistant materials, while the Woven and Performance Loop bands lean eco-friendly with recycled yarns.

For a more polished look, Google has metal mesh, slim stainless steel, and link bands, complete with a sizing tool. Leather options include Crafted and Two-Tone versions in subdued finishes.

There’s even a Gradient Stretch Band for a softer fit, though it’s not meant for workouts. Sizes cover a wide wrist range, and colors span the usual Pixel palette: Obsidian, Porcelain, Moonstone, Lemongrass, Peony, and more.
